Husband and I met in the early 90's while working for a large software firm in California. We were on same project for years. A young nursing assistant asked how we met, and her eyes lit up; "you guys give me hope!"
Our son (early 20's) said relationships don't come by easily nowadays -- dating app or nothing. I don't think our relationship came by easily, but it was slowly built by building together, at work, at life, and everything. Now he only has days left and I'm at a loss.

I wish I had better things to say. Losing a loved one is always hard, and it seems to come in waves at various life stages. Ultimately none of us can keep the people we hold dearest, only borrow them and hold them close for a while.
I'm so happy to hear that you found a person and loved them for 25 or 30 years. I'm sorry your time together is ending, but I hope there's some joy in those memories nonetheless.
May you grieve well, among folks you love. You matter.

My wife wept when I read your post to her. We wish we could ease your pain in some way but know words are thin things. Just know that we are sorry you have to face this and want you to remember how many people out here care for you.
