Bedding is washing away before I hang it outside in the sun.
Fresh linens are my favorite.
In the meantime Summer and I watered the garden and settled down to pull some weeds.
She has to be right in the middle of the whole process. There is no getting lonely while doing chores around here.

When we got to the mud around the bay there were hundreds of these crabs. They scurried into the grass.
Summer wasn't sure what to do.
I told her that she didn't want to mess with these little guys because they don't want to play and they are well equipped to defend themselves.
She listened so we had no injuries.
Summer and I were late getting down the road.
The parking lot for the trail to the beach was full.
We decided to mosey on to Humboldt Bay.
The fog had lifted.
The mosquitoes were abundant.
Summer was full of good energy and happy vibes.
The bestest companion for a morning walk.
We needed to get done and get home so I can be at the pharmacy when they open. The insurance made us get down to one pill before they would renew my husband's prescription. I don't understand because it's not even anything remotely fun to take.
Oh well.

My husband asked me what to do?
I told him that he was right in the middle of a conundrum.
Yep.
He is.
Summer is sound asleep.
Disturbing her peaceful slumber isn't really an option.
He asks how long I think she will sleep?
I said probably until you move.
I was wrong.
He eased off the end of the sofa while sliding a pillow under her head.
Just like we used to do with the grandkids.
She kept sleeping.
Such a sweet friend she is.
We obviously love and cherish her.
I think she knows.

I asked my husband if he would like me to bake him a treat.
I threw around some options like cinnamon rolls, apple or berry pie, cheesecake and even blueberry cobbler.
He thought we should opt for something healthier.
So oatmeal chocolate chip cookies it is.
Chewy and oatmeal healthy.
Sort of.
Chewy for sure. Healthy maybe.

It appears we have a new neighbor.
I was outside cleaning up behind Summer when our neighbor chased a doe out of her yard. I was surprised to see the fawn running behind.
This is a new development.
The fawn won't be able to get over our fences so I don't have to worry about Summer getting territorial.
Cute bouncy little critter.
We are getting a late start because we had to get up super early to check my husband into the hospital for some more tests.
He had to fast too.
Summer was very sympathetic and decided to forgo eating until we dropped him off.
Our biggest regional hospital is a very busy place with a poorly designed parking lot. Summer and I both thought we could think of a better way to get folk in and out. Nobody is asking for our opinion though.
We hung out in town until he was done instead of using the gas to drive home and back again.
Everything went according to schedule so we are back home now. Breakfast has been consumed and garden work can commence.
Summer brought my gloves to me because that's who she is. The bestest helper.

Memory is a funny thing.
Today I picked raspberries.
Bumper crop this year.
Partly because I covered our patch with netting for the first time.
Most years I count on my giant spinning sunflowers to scare off the berry marauders.
I got serious about keeping our crop so now I have to pick and pick and pick.
I brought a container full in so my husband could admire my haul.
He remembers one year when we picked 18 gallons.
I smiled because it didn't happen.
Not a chance.
I'm not even sure where that came from other than he is mistaking gallons for quarts.
As long as he isn't remembering Trump winning the 2020 election I'm good. Raspberry memories are harmless.
Memory is a funny thing.
This was the view as I crawled around under the netting today.
Total harvest of half a gallon.
Maybe it's my memory that's off.
The sun is shining and the garden needs attention.
Summer and I watered, weeded and talked to our plants.
We also planted cucumbers in a barrel. This is a first for me but my grandson's girlfriend made a request. We will see how it goes. She is a lovely addition to our family and I'm privileged to get to know her better.
I wanted to see if Summer would retrieve the specific garden debris based on my ask. When I asked for the pot she brought a pot. When I asked for the bag she brought the empty soil bag.
I am a very proud dog mom.
Excited to show off our baby cucumber plants when family joins us for lunch on Saturday.
Wanting to make sure everyone has their favorite veggie in the garden.
Summer says her favorite is chicken.
I said hmmmm.
We agreed that she could settle for some tasty blueberries instead.

I have so many random thoughts.
When I was a young teen mom (14) I worried about my lack of education. My schooling options were limited as I was considered a bad example and not allowed to attend regular classes. Instead I attended night school where I could take classes mandatory to earn a diploma.
I did that while setting out to educate myself through reading. I asked my local librarian for book suggestions as well as trying to read my way through a list of classic literature.
I still own the dogeared paperback dictionary that allowed me to decifer words beyond my vocabulary.
I'm not sure any of that effort paid dividends. Some authors like Steinbeck haunted me and others baffled me at their aclaim.
Now that I'm old random plots and passages come to mind out of the blue.
I saw a man carrying a heavy load up a hill today and thought Pilgrim's Progress. I probably should have saved my memory storage capacity for something more useful.
I think our potato plants are happy.
Hopefully there is as much happening under the dirt as is happening above.
Summer and her pal love watching them grow.
They look more robust everyday.
Exciting stuff around these parts.

Taking pictures while Summer wanders around in the pouring rain looking for the perfect spot to potty.
It is never the same spot.
A new search is required every time we go outside.

She started out feeling a little anxious today.
It seems she just need a reminder that she is loved.

I feel like our virtual community isn't really virtual any more. We feel connected to real people. It is a good feeling.
We are forever thankful for all of the warmth and caring more present here than anywhere else in the universe.
Today Summer is accessorized like a big city dog thanks to @Star12Mt who sent the kerchief.
She feels very special because of this act of kindness.
So do we.

We woke up to a wind and drizzle day.
Summer was feeling a little anxious.
We decided to cuddle up for some hugs and belly rubs. Summer rarely barks so I'm not sure what was bothering her but after relaxing on my lap for a bit she was ready to tackle the day.
Once in a great while Summer is the one who needs some extra love.
We take turns.
Hopefully it's your turn today too.

Another weekend is almost done.
This one's been a doozy but because we have managed to make the right choices things have worked out. Sometimes I wonder how we know the right things to do. Even our doctors wonder sometimes. My husband's oncologist tells me I missed my calling by not seeking a career in medicine. Little does he know that for me, college was out of reach.
The good news is that my husband is feeling better.
He felt well enough to feed Summer tonight while I picked raspberries and covered a newly planted raised garden bed with netting. I finished just as it got too dark to see. Tomorrow will be rainy so there was a sense of urgency. I didn't want to waste a half gallon of ripe raspberries.
This week will bring more tests and doctor appointments but I am happy as a clam that my husband is eating, pain and fever free.
Summer is happy as a clam too.

Summer needed a fun distraction.
Cardboard recycling is her favorite job.
She tells me that she thinks it might have been her calling but only after being assistant caregiver for her pal.
She has her priorities straight.
I won't drive it to the recycle until next week because we are staying home right now but the fun part was fun today.
Summer brings so much entertainment and enjoyment to our lives.
When she is in the back of the car I have to dodge doggie kisses because she's figured out that she is at just the right height for such shenanigans.
Got to watch out for that Summer dog.

Summer did manage a mid afternoon nap. She is nurse, companion and director of cheerfulness in between naps.
She even shared a graham cracker with her pal.

I had to run to my daughter's house to pick up packages today.
A couple of flowers from her front yard to share.
Today has been trying.
We got some of my husband's test results and he has a kidney infection again.
So far so good managing at home.
Not much time for tooting though.
The three of us are cozied up on the sofa watching the History channel.
Summer says she likes whatever shows her pal likes. I say I can go along with that since he is the one that doesn't feel good.
I work on postcards in-between monitoring vitals.
Two hundred cards are ready to mail to Texas.
I expect tomorrow will be better because I always think tomorrow will be better.
