I've been thinking hard about what is necessary for happiness in life:
- a lack of anxiety around health, housing, food, etc
- comfortable living situation
- family and friends
- a project
Nothing new here, but as with everything the devil is in the details.
The first is in many ways the toughest as it is so dependent on a bunch of externals, and on politics, as so many people are increasingly noticing.

What I've been really trying to think through is the comfortable living situation and the project aspects.

For the living situation, I'm increasingly thinking that less is really vital there than I'd thought previously.

The project aspect seems increasingly important. For many, the project will simply be "family." Which is great, but no longer really seems to be an option for me.

For some academics, their field of study is their project - which is awesome, so lucky.

For too many people, money and consumption has become their project, which is personally tragic (I think) and civilizationally devastating
