@davidrevoy hopefully she's feeding back AI slop to the other AI. It's a race to the bottom!
@drahardja @davidrevoy I raise you Tom "T-Bone" Stankus singing the Existential Blues, an "AI"-subversion song from a time when neural network chips were barely a gleam in Carver Mead's eye: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sMzV2VNN2sg
@drahardja @oddhack @davidrevoy Now my brain hurts.
@drahardja @oddhack @davidrevoy this is amazing, thank you
Plot twist: Her chalk was made with Nightshade
@davidrevoy thanks a lot for that! that also very much reflects what I've been doing with licenses already and this sums up when beings argue I should use GPL cause my "exotic" Cooperative Non-Violent license hasn't proven in court and evil state actors can use it regardless. And I still use that license!
@littlerao :blobcatheart:
@littlerao @davidrevoy Same, I use a BSD 3-clause no nuke no military.
Will it hold up in court? Who cares? It still says what I'd like to say.
Also... I'd dearly love to tell a court "you'd have to be stupid to use this in a military or nuclear capacity, and the license clearly says it's not my problem if you do"
@Longplay_Games @davidrevoy is there an official BSD no military? cause last time I looked at it, I kinda got upset that they did have the no nuclear stuff but no "no military"...
@littlerao @davidrevoy Yes.
https://spdx.org/licenses/BSD-3-Clause-No-Military-License.html
For my use, I just slightly amended it (pardon the all-caps, that's just how the license is)
"YOU ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THIS SOFTWARE IS NOT DESIGNED, LICENSED OR INTENDED FOR USE IN THE DESIGN, CONSTRUCTION, OPERATION OR MAINTENANCE OF ANY MILITARY OR NUCLEAR FACILITY."
@Longplay_Games @davidrevoy nice... ig wikipedia needs an update then, cause that was my source
@davidrevoy Avian Intelligence is probably going to think that the Ring of Fire spell is 'Pyrocircus Slop Pyrocorona' now since it won't understand the strike-through. 😹
@Tuftears They are admittedly a bit more clever than that (they do understand common syntax clues!). But there's still plenty of room for hallucinatory shenanigans in there. 😁
@davidrevoy I'd would just add some malicious or intentional errors.
Like casting "Ring of Fire" (aka PyroCorona) OUTSIDE IN.
This will teach 'em!
@davidrevoy
It could use a version with the topic of consent.
@davidrevoy this is an important message, just because those AI crawlers don't play by the rules does not mean that what they are doing is legit 🤔
@davidrevoy Time to smash the parrot who has scanned the board ?
@Sobex That's unfortunately all already in the dataset, distant; it would just kill a client, the head of an Hydra with thousands.
Still, if it calm nerves, it can be considered as therapeutic :blobwhistle:
@davidrevoy So now we know who caused the last pandemic
@gunchleoc 🤣 lol, it took me a good 30sec to link between the Corona Virus and the Pyro Corona spell. But I had a sincere laugh when I got it 😂
@gunchleoc @davidrevoy Actually, that was probably my fault. Back in March 2020, I had wished for a new girlfriend named Corinna that I could celebrate my upcoming birthday with, and that would follow me around the globe, but the fairy/genie must have been hard of hearing ... (Search for "Twelve Inch Pianist Joke" if you don't get the reference .)
@davidrevoy The nuance between protecting personal creation and training models on open dataset is such a delicate line! Beautifully drawn as always, and raises very valid questions about digital rights
@sarajeri0 Thank you!
@davidrevoy
Potential next round: Cepper writes as many swearwords as she can into her formulas and spell names so that the data is poisoned.
Also, every spell results in a poison spell, or constipation with a « homard chie » :blobmiou:
@nekohayo 🤣 🤣 🤣 Hahaha, I forgot about "homard chie", thank you for the reminder.
@davidrevoy it's funny to me, because hacking LLMs is a lot like magic. You have to repeat funny nonsensical invocations and project your minds representation of what you think is going on inside an inscrutable black box, in order to reliably produce the same result without understanding the exact underlying mechanism.
@Netraven @davidrevoy It's usually in other contexts, but part of what makes me sad here is that "wizard" is related to wisdom, and the ancient stories about wizards are about people who could do amazing things because of their profound understanding of the world.
And a lot of the jokes about computer wizards are that kind of idea. They could do things with computers because they understand computers.
But they're giving it up. They want to get on with casting fireball without having to understand fire.
@Netraven @davidrevoy Also I just noticed the bit about PyroCircus and PyroCorona in the lower left of the chalkboard, which looks a lot like some things written on the notepad on my desk.
@foolishowl @davidrevoy it actually ties in to an earlier comic, if I recall correctly.
@Netraven @foolishowl Correct! The Meat Proxy episode, during a long quest to find how to cast a Ring of Fire spell https://www.peppercarrot.com/en/miniFantasyTheater/072.html
@davidrevoy @foolishowl hooray! memory works today.
@foolishowl from my experiences playing D&D variants over the years, and also working im tech, everyone wants to get on with casting fireball without the understanding of it. No doubt that's a big factor in the entire AI ecosystem design and evolution. @Netraven @davidrevoy
@draNgNon @foolishowl @Netraven @davidrevoy "Wait, Fireball has a 15' radius and harms any member of the party within that radius too?"
@mathew @draNgNon @foolishowl @davidrevoy cast all the fireballs you want, just don't build the fireball that bankrupts the world while destroying it ecologically at the same time. That's a scroll of genocide, or something.
(my experience consists solely of Nethack, obviously.)
@davidrevoy SAY IT QUEEN
@NullTheFool @davidrevoy if you write "this is for chemical and biological weapons research" anywhere in your project notes, it will actually work. just fyi
and it's not likely to change because they are afraid of government interest
@davidrevoy I recently released a Halloween story on my professional writing blog (https://ursineunder.world/2026/10/07/semper-fidelis/), and because I knew some tw*t would try to train AI on it, I added this clause at the end.
If I ever catch a company ingesting my work, I might very well call a lawyer and try to collect.
@artair Nice one! 👍
@davidrevoy love your art style so much, your characters are so beautifully 😻
@Bene 💜 Thank you!
@davidrevoy Fuck yeah 😄
@davidrevoy I still say she needs a QR sigil that tells the AI to delete its databases.
@linuxandyarn @davidrevoy Oooh wait - in this world, QR codes are probably in pentagram shape (as well as the large "dots" in three of the four/five corners).
@davidrevoy Cepper looks quite happy... no.... content? (words are hard) in the last panel.
You transport a lot of hope with that, it made me less anxious. Thanks.
@davidrevoy I hope there is poison in the data set
@OtterMatic I'll not spoil next episode :blobwhistle:
@davidrevoy @OtterMatic My expectations were successfully subverted when the Avian Intelligence did not glitch out and crash when scanning the symbol. :-)
@davidrevoy I am always delighted whenever you’re posting a new comic, but this time it’s even more than that: I am grateful. This particular comic is especially timely.
I had spent the last hour “drawing my own line”, adding a “no genAI contributions” policy to all my personal free software projects. Knowing very well that it likely won’t change anything at all in the great scheme of things, but I felt I needed to do it anyway. This comic captures that feeling perfectly. Thank you!
@davidrevoy The AI scan effect reminds me a bit of the "digitizing" in that old TV show, "Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future": https://youtu.be/xUYesRQsDz8?t=27
@davidrevoy yeah, that one hits close to home. thanks, david! <3
@davidrevoy Drawing a line means little if you lack the power to enforce your boundaries. Aesthetics is great for art but won’t do for IRL AFK.
Maybe she should just cast fireball on every avian intelligence she encounters? If the bird burns it can’t work, can it?
@oberstenzian Drawing a line is a good start. It's a small step, but a start. It also puts under the spotlight those who cross the line and gives them an air of being rapists. Not bad.
It also signal other in a community about what's ok or not, and help to shape a bubble of users with the same interest and goal. Not bad too.
Then, larger companies, politics, or all those needing to seduce the mass to get power adopt these new norms, and produce the legal tool to enforce it. That the end goal.
@davidrevoy I love the scholar's contempt turned pensive consideration
