I just listened to the #GeschichtenAusDerGeschichte episode about Tiberius Gracchus. Starts out with all the land being in the hand of a few rich politicians, Tiberius wanting land reforms. Murder of Tiberius planned openly in the Senate, the consul refusing it, the high priest calling for murder.
Tiberius and many of his followers were slain by senators. No consequences. So just murdering your political opponents is normalised.
Yeah, sounds really crazy.

Pet peeve: People saying first "quote unquote" and then the term that is supposed to be inside the quotation marks...

@neurovagrant this assumes that they care about killing people, especially women. The tech industry has demonstrated repeatedly that they do not care.

@ecb I really like the idea of new banknotes. I really dislike putting actual people on it. We didn't do this for a reason back then, as far as I can recall it. We wanted to avoid the discussions like "Why is the Italian on a higher value note than the Austrian? Why is there no French representative?" (I like and respect the choices made, I dislike the general idea).
This was something I really liked about the bank notes.
Unfortunately the survey has no free text field 😕

Update: I found it!
Those a pliers to open spring "clamps" that are used to clamp mitre joints, like in picture frames! Not sure if I will use it ever, getting perfect mitres by hand is (currently) beyond my skills.

Now that I think of it, I have seen the marks left by these spring clamps in frames!

#tools #unknown I guess this is used to open the spring steel thingies, but I have no bloody clue what this actually is - or what it is used for or where to install these springs.

Garden guests!
We found a young snake (Natrix Natrix?) behind some flower pots, and just a few minutes later a lizard (Lacerta agilis?) crossed our patio.

Happy Easter/ god påske!

Fox? #foxes

Listening to @dave_hone and @iszi and Kimi Chapelle. The new episode of #terriblelizards promises to be lots of fun (and educational for me). I really loved Iszi's joke about the heads of Brontosaurus and Egyptian gods 😂

I just listened to @markwitton @dave_hone and @iszi talking about the new #spinosaurus book. A wonderful #terriblelizards episode! Check it out.
A friend also just received the book, it looks amazing!

I have an exit #puzzle #calender. This is the third time this year that I have a puzzle that has more than one valid solution.
I also had at least two that were just plain wrong.

Bad quota.

Apart from that it is fun, but $person, does this tick me off when that happens. The pictures are also bloody #aislop and not the good kind.
Any of you have a suggestion for a good product (German preferred, English or Norsk (both forms) are OK)?

This is what pull requests used to look like.

(The last sentence is particularly remarkable!)

@mike just saw that #SGE got #LFC for the Champions League 😀.
There's some really tough nuts this year. I guess teaching the playoffs might be realistic, though.

#Train #reboot ing?
Just saw this on a regonal train while it was stopped. In transit the display remained dark, the announcements were loud and clear.

Roll for it, monkey-boy!

Learning to suck at something new. This week: carving flowers.

Swiss army knife, Larix decidua (European larch)

Rant about Windows 11.

I know the start menu is messed up, and I can no longer group icons visually to show the difference of where the stuff is run (locally, WTS) or which version.
But would it be too much to ask for to actually leave things in place after I pinned and sorted into folders? This is the second time in as many weeks that my start menu start page has been emptied. Thunder shall strike the programmers down while crapping!

It's a work machine, so no "duh, use Linux"...

My son came home with a styrofoam model of the planets and the sun (not to scale). We did a back of the envelope calculation to think about sizes and distances at the same time because "dad, can we put it at scale in the garden?". The Sun should be 2m in diameter when compared to his earth. Distance earth to sun would be about 200m, Neptune at 6km.

Though I know this in principle, I was again quite surprised - as was he.

Garden scale model: Sun 5mm, Earth 0.05mm. Space is big, Earth is small.

The Digitalis is finally taking off like crazy. I took the photo on my commute home.
