Job applicants are using AI to write resumes and prep interview answers.

Companies are using AI to screen those applications and conduct initial interviews.

We’ve officially automated both sides of a process meant to measure human connection.

    The irony is genuinely unreal.

@Strandjunker Job applicants use AI to crawl the internet for interesting jobs, to send thousands of application letters, to sort through the invitations that come back and to select the companies they want to go to for an interview. 🤯

@Strandjunker That’s the part of AI adoption that feels most paradoxical. If both sides optimize their responses with AI, we may end up measuring who is better at prompting and polishing rather than who is actually the right fit.

Maybe the real challenge now is figuring out where AI should assist the process without replacing the human judgment the process was designed to evaluate.

@Strandjunker now someone will figure out how to save money buy allowing the reviewer AI to see the original prompt from the candidate AI, and quickly review the prompt instead of the expanded text.

    It will be worth billions.

Instead of Software as a Service (SaaS), AI slop delivers Inauthenticity as a Service (IaaS)

The mismatch in alignment between employee and organization never gets addressed because AI, the middleman, is misrepesenting both sides.

I was aware of this creeping in just over a year ago when I changed jobs. It’s intriguing because the folks who got hired at the same time as me have all stayed with our employer and the team. Those hired 6 months ago were deemed very promising from their applications, but they have all left. Is HR reliance on #AI sifted applications (that have been written with #AI ) resulting in really bad recruitment choices? My sector needs humans to go to site, this slop is unsustainable.

@Strandjunker did you see the bit about recruiters seeing male applicants using AI as showing initiative, whilst seeing female applicants using AI as showing weakness?

@Strandjunker I’ve said the same things about emails at work and other things. Like if you’re having your AI write an email summary of a meeting to send to me where I have my AI summarize the email, then why don’t we just dump the whole trillion dollar middleman and save time and money by just not sending the email to begin with.

@Strandjunker I had an engineer in their mid-20s who purported to have PRODUCED over 100 singles and EPs.

I said bullshit, let me hear your work. They got defensive and called me unprofessional and rude. I said bold claims require bold challenges. They send some links. I said "so have you actually physically WORKED WITH a HUMAN ARTIST, like...ever? This is all AI slop."

When confronted they seemed stunned I knew it was AI from listening to 3 minutes of samples. I was like, "habe a nice day."

@Strandjunker The team writes the PRD with AI receives the RFC written by AI, sends comments using AI and the comments get integrated using AI. The Technical Doc is then implemented using AI and God knows in future will also be used only by AI.
The only portion left in tech with human touch is the business's greed for profit and the engineers pursuit to avoid any accountability

@Strandjunker this is so fu**g true but didn't it start long back when we started connecting based on rational choice , time was never free and it has been commoditized since we were made
Everything else is either marketing or biology

Employee expands 3 bullet points into 5 paragraph "business email" to impress the boss. Boss condenses email back into 3 bullet points.

New Yorker one panel cartoon with a cop standing next to a car, with the caption "Do you know why my car pulled your car over?"

In the resume arms race, I'm reminded of Dr. Seuss "Sneetches on Beaches" as the con artist charges them dollars coming and going to add and remove stars.

Mate, a friend talked to me about something freaking ridiculous.

He applied to a job opening, and managed to get an interview scheduled - however, the company used AI for the process.

He gets there... and they didn't know that there was a meeting scheduled. They gave him an interview because yeah, it was ridiculous - but guess what? They WEREN'T EVEN HIRING for the LISTED POSITION.

This was for a burger-flipping job. I'm so tired-

The sci-fi i indulged in my youth, about automated warfare and finding the bottom of the barrel did not prepare me for this abject paucity of care.

Perhaps this is the right metaphor for this AI hype wave. All energy to sorting averages and scrambling for mediocrity.

    @Strandjunker this hits home rn.

My brother-in-law has been seeking work for two years. He is dyslexic, has some disability and has no computer or smartphone. He used to deliver sacks of coal for 15 years, he is bright and not afraid of hard work. He has a few hours working as school crossing patrol.

This de-humanising of HR makes job applications basically immpossible for him. My dear wife (his sister) spends so much time applying for him, but rarely does he get past the inhuman filters...
