35m agoSurprise, surprise - this is what you get when the goal is to always answer questions quickly and at all costs rather than to answer truthfully and say "I don't know".
And it's also what you get when people without any sort of ethics program a stochastic parrot probability machine to simulate them.
1h agoYou know, I never did hear another peep out of Company 2 after I interviewed with the CEO like 2 weeks ago. Then again, I never bothered to follow-up either and so maybe it was just a case of "it's not you, it's not me, it's us".
But still, no further response to at least tell me that they are not going to move forward? Very unprofessional.
Good riddance, I guess, eh?
1h agoIn related PreemChrome news, I got to learn a lot more about configuring the Content-Security-Policy (CSP) header as the new taxonomy changes I made to the structure revealed what I thought was a problem with Quartz or Obsidian's handling of CSS.
Turns out that locally, my CSP was not quite correct and was misconfigured, so I was able to resolve that today. I never noticed it because I didn't really have reason to look for it until I mucked about with the site structure and it would seem that my hoster's CSP is a lot more lenient than what I would put in place for myself (which is good to know).
But, I done got it fixed and taken care of, so now I have a fully-functioning, locally-hosted backup of the site in the event that I ever need to drop my hoster and decide to handle it all myself. Bonus!
1h agoWelp, did a major overhaul of the article organization over on PreemChrome - I expanded the Article Explorer taxonomy and rearranged the hierarchy a little bit to bring a little order to what has become a fair amount of chaos over the last year in the life of PC!
I'm still using tags and backlinks and all that stuff (which should all still be working), but I wanted to add some higher level classifications of overall themes of the writing that I do. And, if you happen to find something that is all of a sudden broken, please don't hesitate to let me know.

4h agoWelp, those thank you notes did rattle some cages alright, but not quite exactly the way I wanted them to. Apparently the "runner-up" company (Company 3 in this current saga) will not be making an offer because they were interviewing someone else in parallel and they offered them first and they accepted.
It kind of burns, but I'd rather lose out in this type of situation (the VP I've been working with was falling all over himself telling me how close of a decision it was) than just for spurious reasons or failing some stupid coding test. Of course he couldn't tell me the specifics, but this is what happens when you have 1 available position and multiple applicants.
(my guess is that my age and experience and perhaps some of the questions I asked about the culture gave them just enough pause to make the offer to a younger, lesser-experienced-but-more-easily-told-what-to-do person.)
And, this is the company where I had some ethical as well as cultural concerns as potential down-the-road problems, so now that little bit of cognitive dissonance has been cleared up for me.
Anyway, it stings a little but in the long run, it's what I really wanted to happen. Now I can just focus on doing what it takes to get the job that I really want at Company 1.

4h agoSidenote: The CEO of the "runner-up" company just replied to my thank you note. Like, within 10 minutes. That's crazy!
Of course, no indication of whether an offer is forthcoming, but still - that was faster than I was expecting!
4h agoJust sent out thank you follow-ups to the two front-runner companies that I interviewed with last week. Hopefully it will jar something loose in at least one of them.
Hedging my bets by setting up a phone screen for Thursday afternoon with a new company to get that ball rolling just in case I have completely misread both of these situations.
