A round of applause for all of this week's clappers. If you've spent any time with them though, be sure to get yourself checked out.

NEXT WEEK ON #ThePlaylist
Spooky season is once again very much upon us, and rather than do a generic Halloween playlist, we thought we'd go down the different, potentially more interesting route of:
Underworld
So will it be songs about Orpheus or Hades, bangers from the legendary British dance act, or songs about fictional lingerie factories in Manchester?
Sling your suggestions this way using #ThePlaylistSuggestion or, the form on the site ( https://djdarren.site/archive/suggestions/ ) and together we'll put together two solid hours of spooky underworldly tunes.

sodslawyersodslawyer@mstdn.socialOct 19, 2026, 8:30 PM'Down In The Subway' - Soft Cell
'Ein Stuhl In Der Hölle' - Einstürzende Neubauten
Oct 19, 2026, 8:31 PMSuggestions from the Dr Caitlin and Mr Swisslet household:
- Going Underground by The Jam
- Highway to Hell by AC/DC
- Cowboys from Hell by Pantera
- Sweet Jane by The Velvet Underground
- Orpheus by Ash
Excellent theme!
Steph (slightly better version)astronomerritt@hachyderm.ioOct 19, 2026, 8:34 PM@DJDarren There are far too many songs in my library about hell, so cutting it down to four this week was agonising and I think I have done a bad job, honestly. I picked songs I like personally over songs with more general appeal 😅
Dance With The Dead - From Hell
Beast in Black - From Hell With Love
Lamb of God - Walk With Me In Hell
Darren Korb and Ashley Barrett - In The Blood (because it's the end credits song for the video game Hades, which is about the Greek underworld)And as a bed suggestion, I think anything ELSE from the Hades soundtrack would work. My vote is for Out of Tartarus because it's iconic. #ThePlaylistSuggestion
aoanlaaoanla@hachyderm.ioOct 19, 2026, 8:37 PM@astronomerritt @DJDarren I was going to suggest In The Blood too... I need to think of other options
- aoanlaaoanla@hachyderm.ioOct 19, 2026, 8:45 PM
@astronomerritt I forget, is Out of Tartarus the one with the riff from Doom's "At Doom's Gate" in it?
- Steph (slightly better version)astronomerritt@hachyderm.ioOct 19, 2026, 9:23 PM
@DJDarren From Papa Irish:
The Crazy World of Arthur Brown - Fire
Cozy Powell - Dance with the Devil
Dr Alice Violettalicemcalicepants@ohai.socialOct 19, 2026, 9:45 PM@astronomerritt @DJDarren #ThePlaylistSuggestion ha, my mind went straight to a different soundtrack! I was never quite able to follow the story in the Underworld films, but they looked and sounded cool 😁
Outside of that...
Brody Dalle - Underworld
Minuit Machine - Underworld
Scowl - Not Hell, Not Heaven
CHVRCHES - Heaven/Hell
Ronald SnijderRonaldSnijder@mastodon.socialOct 19, 2026, 8:38 PM@DJDarren #ThePlaylistSuggestion #underworld
OK, let me be the obvious one: Iron Maiden's The Number of the Beast.
But... how about Satan singing wistfully about the world up there? Up There - South Park Bigger Longer and Uncut Soundtrack
Chipotle Axolotl (aka Julian)julianlawson@beige.partyOct 19, 2026, 8:38 PM@DJDarren I see Swisslet's Ash Orpheus and raise him a David Sylvian Orpheus.
And somewhere from the depths of my mind I remember the name of the Hebrew underworld and thus suggest Sheol by Face Culler, which is excellent value for money as it is (a) spooky (b) less than two minutes
NickNickiquote@mstdn.socialOct 19, 2026, 9:08 PMI see Julian’s Orpheus by David Sylvian and @swisslet ‘s Orpheus by Ash and raise them Orpheus by The Walker Brothers.
- NickNickiquote@mstdn.socialOct 19, 2026, 9:35 PM
@julianlawson @DJDarren @swisslet
I’ll also throw in Necropolitan Line by Green Lung, a brand new song from this very year about the London Necropolis Railway.
- Chipotle Axolotl (aka Julian)julianlawson@beige.partyOct 20, 2026, 5:01 PM
@Nickiquote @DJDarren @swisslet That is a very excellent title.
- Oct 19, 2026, 9:41 PM
@Nickiquote @julianlawson @DJDarren Scott Walker will always have my wholehearted approval.
Sheepniksheepnik@toot.walesOct 19, 2026, 8:39 PM- Sheepniksheepnik@toot.walesOct 20, 2026, 7:14 AM
@DJDarren if it's not obvious, mine are all things that are /were found underground - animals, fossils, miners.
Ciarán Ferrieccferrie@mastodon.ieOct 19, 2026, 8:40 PM@DJDarren #ThePlaylistSuggestion
Frank & Walters - Underground
Tom Waits - Way Down in the Hole
AC/DC - Hell ain't a bad place to be
The Velvet Underground - Pale Blue Eyes(I know there are more obvious AC/DC songs but this is my favourite. For Tom Waits I was going to go for Hell Broke Luce but you played that recently, also he has a song called Underground but I think this one might be slightly more #ThePlaylist-friendly.)
Jonmejc@mastodon.onlineOct 19, 2026, 8:44 PM@DJDarren
#ThePlaylistSuggestionOffenbach - cancan. From Orpheus in the underworld
Nick cave and the bad seeds - lyre of Orpheus . Orpheus again.
The men that will not be blamed for nothing - Miner. As miners work underground

Oct 19, 2026, 9:26 PM@DJDarren Out of left field (not Leftfield), all 1 minute 47 seconds of:
James - "Just Hip".
Drop me a DM and I'll explain why 🙂
Paula PapaiaPaulaPapaia@mastodont.catOct 19, 2026, 9:36 PM@DJDarren
L’infern - Joan Colomo
El mort i el degollat - Nacho Umbert & la compañía
Me and the devil - Soap&Skin
Lucifer - Valentina & the electric post
The devil - PJ Harvey
La daga - Ferran Palau
Bruixes - Salvatge cor

My Tourniquet - Evanescence
Bat out of Hell - Meatloaf
Spanish Train - Chris de Burgh
MrAndrewDMrAndrewD@aus.socialOct 19, 2026, 10:45 PM@DJDarren My initial #AusMusic suggestion on the theme "Underworld" is
Hieronymus by The Clouds. Hieronymus Bosch's paintings were full of religious concepts, including hell (aka the underworld).
OlDirtyGaijin :koto:OlDirtyGaijin@famichiki.jpOct 20, 2026, 5:18 AM@DJDarren
Who Put the Devil in You - You Am I
Satan is my Motor - CAKE
Chase the Devil - Max Romeo
Hells Ditch - The Pogues
Nikkileah 🎮🚄🏳️⚧️🇬🇧Nikkileah@mendeddrum.orgOct 20, 2026, 6:31 AM@DJDarren from the "Musical Roleplaying Game" - Stray Gods, there's an epic track "Challenging A Queen"
There's 3 versions due to the choices you make.
Find the red album version.
It's absolutely brilliant and has Laura Bailey rapping an epic diss....
RolloTreadwayRolloTreadway@beige.partyOct 20, 2026, 6:36 AM@DJDarren #ThePlaylistSuggestion
Curtis Mayfield - (Don't Worry) If There's a Hell Below, We're All Going to Go
(there's a three-and-a-half minute version of this, and there's an eight minute version. Choose wisely.)Frankie Archer - Close the Coalhouse Door
(because it's about mining. There are many versions of this song, but Frankie Archer's take was one I found by chance, I'd never heard of her before and it blew me away. Now a huge fan. She's great.)Mercury Rev - Holes
(holes, as it says, dug by little moles - so they must be underground tunnels)The Unthanks - The Testimony of Patience Kershaw
(again, it's a song about mining.)
Bed suggestion:
Black Dyke Band - Gresford (The Miners' Hymn)
I could suggest lots of songs about mining, but I'd better stop there.
Sjoerdsjoerd@aus.socialOct 20, 2026, 10:37 AM@DJDarren my #hiphop #thePlaylistSuggestion suggestions for the theme Underworld are various anthems about worlds below our feet:
Gravediggaz - 6 Feet Deep (I forgot how amazing this track is, so thank you for coming with a theme that brought me back to it!)
Das EFX - Straight Out the Sewer
Lords of the Underground - Keep It Underground
Royroytoo@mstdn.socialOct 20, 2026, 1:02 PM@DJDarren

Daveybotdaveybot@mastodon.scotOct 20, 2026, 5:22 PM@DJDarren #ThePlaylistSuggestion
As one of #ThePlaylist's Edinburgh-based representatives it's almost impossible not to fall into a Trainspotting-based trap of obvious Underworld recommendations, but instead I'm going with this, which I still say is Danny Boyle's better Edinburgh film:
🪦 Leftfield - Shallow Grave
Plus there's these:
🎤 Abdominal & DJ Format - Heaven's Demon
🔥 Squirrel Nut Zippers - Hell...And I might have suggested the Dodge Brothers but I see I did that in 2024!
Mark Whybirdwhybird@aus.socialOct 21, 2026, 8:45 AM@DJDarren Meat Loaf - Bat out of Hell
Something by Styx, obviously… ‘Mr Roberto’, I think. That or ‘Not Dead Yet’.
Kara GoldfinchKaraLG84@dragonscave.spaceOct 21, 2026, 12:35 PM@DJDarren I have a couple of suggestions for your bed. How about some of Underworld's amazing music they did for the 2012 Olympics opening ceremony, such as "And I Will Kiss" and "Caliban's Dream".
#ThePlaylistSuggestion- Kara GoldfinchKaraLG84@dragonscave.spaceOct 21, 2026, 12:41 PM
@DJDarren And for a regular suggestion, how about Jamiroquai - Deeper Underground. #ThePlaylistSuggestion
