QOTD: "I think, every year, the richest person in the world should be sacrificed and their wealth distributed to the poorest among us. The rest of the year would be billionaires scrambling to distribute their wealth in an attempt to ensure they aren't the one to pushed out into the ocean next year. Is that radical enough for you?" --@genxkiwi66

We could even make them a nice plaque.
@CdnCurmudgeon see Children of Kali (from Ministry for the Future)
May 30, 2026, 2:18 PM@CdnCurmudgeon Surely it’s supposed to say “every day”
@CdnCurmudgeon I think of something even more radical: putting them at the lowest poor level of their country.
That should incentive the richest to never leave too much behind the poorest.
Ancient Greece meets the French Revolution
@CdnCurmudgeon
Or they could work at regular wage at fast food counter alternate weeks and unblocking toilets the other weeks.
Live in a dorm and only have one leisure outfit and one work outfit.
Absolutely all assets removed. Children to good foster care. If partner non-working, then they are living at a refuge till they get a job.
Your idea and the number of rich people it should apply to monthly or annually should be seriously debated.
Which millionaire, or more, is achieved honestly?
@CdnCurmudgeon You need to watch the movie "Rich Flu" #KarmaPandemic

eat one billionaire a week, it's all we ask
It would still take about 70yrs to get rid of them all that way.
@darwinwoodka @CdnCurmudgeon Hmmm... No. #Cannibalism_Is_Right_Out
@franciswashere @darwinwoodka @CdnCurmudgeon
Cut their hamstrings and throw them to some wild boar
@darwinwoodka @CdnCurmudgeon @franciswashere
And that's completely unacceptable. I should not have posted that, but have you seen the world we're living in? I think we're past being polite. Maybe I don't know block me or not
@griff Nah. Not worth the effort.
May 31, 2026, 2:38 PM@franciswashere Cannibalism? It’s not like they’re people… @darwinwoodka @CdnCurmudgeon
@CdnCurmudgeon Every time I see something like this, I remember that Taylor Swift is a billionaire. Who gets to decide who is evil and who is not? We need a better metric, like how well compensated are their employees. Swift is generous. Bezos is a monster.
@CdnCurmudgeon @blogdiva Potlatch: the wealthiest person intentionally distributes all they own to the community and lives off of handouts and gratitude. Not a new thing. No loss of life.
@beckett @CdnCurmudgeon @blogdiva
"From 1885 to 1951, the Government of Canada criminalized potlatches. However, the practice persisted underground despite the risk of government reprisals including mandatory jail sentences of at least two months"

@CdnCurmudgeon My thought was to assign anyone exceeding a consensus derived wealth sum would be given some long languishing public works project. Basically following the 'idle hands' principle. "idle wealth".
And until said public works project is certified satisfactorily completed by 86.2% of the affected citizens, said Gazillionaire will be required to pay the same percentage of income tax as their lowest-paid employee pays, with no exceptions, loopholes, or sleights of hand.
@JKrotkov @CdnCurmudgeon I admire the elegance of your proposition. Implementation though would require a level of invasive oversight i'm not sure most folks would be comfortable with violating privacy norms over. In order to ensure compliance, you're essentially creating a demand for constant surveillance that i'm confident wouldn't survive a 4th amendment court test.
um.... we're not proposing legislation here... 🤨
@JKrotkov @CdnCurmudgeon Why not? Look around you, friend. All we see EACH and EVERY fucking day is people standing around BITCHING. Not DOING. Everyone complains. But only a few look for actionable solutions. That dynamic needs to shift if we don't always want to be stuck furiously duct tape patching an entropy engine exquisitely confabulated to tear itself to pieces every day. Civilization is getting too complex & damage potential too broad to keep trusting our luck like this.
Let me know which office you'll be running for, and how we can help.
@JKrotkov @CdnCurmudgeon *heh* No way i'd make it pass a mudslinger. Other candidates will weaponize my professional background & 20 years extranational against me.
My current focus is entirely dedicated to democratic survival. This administration has shown EVERY intent & sign to upend our 250 year experiment in a bid for absolute power. Without a system where change is possible nearly every other concern & effort becomes secondary. Towards that end i've got a plan to checkmate him at midterms.
@JKrotkov @Beggarmidas
There may be a historical precedent we can use...
@CdnCurmudgeon @JKrotkov Sort of. Temporarily. Immediately after they purged each other in an internecine slaughterhouse. Then went on to be subjugated by Napoleon who crowned himself Emperor, which kind of made the whole effort a moot point, eh?
...So perhaps more cautionary tale than prospective template. Besides, this is America. Our cultural tradition is a lot more immediately available. Nobody is ever that far from a tall tree & a short rope.
This will never happen because all the major media outlets are owned by billionaires. All your neighbors and people around you, when you suggest this plan, will knowingly tell you that this is socialism, or communism. People who have never taken a political science class, but are well educated at the school of Fox News, Facebook, Twitter, Washington Post ... etc.
@CdnCurmudgeon I think taking all their money and distribute it to the poorest (in a way they would get among the poorest) is probably a good enough punishment. They would also be motivated to increase the “poorest” level in case they would end up there.
May 30, 2026, 7:22 PM
May 30, 2026, 7:26 PM@CdnCurmudgeon Okay, so in this scenario, we off Musk, and the poorest billion people get two shares each of Tesla, the cesspool formerly known as Twitter, and SpaceX. What are they supposed to do with them?
Trade, sell or toss in that drawer with the push pins, paperclips, possibly working pens and "maybe still good" batteries.
@CdnCurmudgeon Ouch.
@CdnCurmudgeon HAH! This is brilliant! Along those lines, I think there should be a reality TV show (like "Survivor") except the winner gets voted off first with the largest amount of money, and the prizes decrease down to zero for the last person.
How to win? Be the nicest, most honest and helpful person! Peeps would fall over themselves trying to be good humans.
@CdnCurmudgeon Excellent!
The first billionaire that crosses into trillionaire wealth.
Gets the guillotine, as a warning to the rest
@CdnCurmudgeon not comfortable with ‘sacrificed’. They can pick a different country to ‘start over’ and will be given 0.0001 ounces of gold.
@CdnCurmudgeon
I wuz obligated to boost this post by virtue of my name.
Bong hits 4 Jesus.
May 31, 2026, 8:15 AMNope. But It will look way radical for you, the day you'll get told that you are the richest guy in your village.
"It s cool, until it harms someone else." Quite childish.
@CdnCurmudgeon seems like you'd just incentivizeever more clever ways to hide your wealth, offshore or elsewhere.
