I’ve been thinking about the effect that air conditioning has had on US culture. Before home cooling, people had to leave the windows open in summer, sit on the front porch, be accessible to their neighbors. Family and neighborhood life was less private out of necessity.
A/C made it possible to keep windows closed and stay indoors year round. To not know who your neighbors are. A/C contributed to an isolated, atomized society.
Sorry, I'm a collective society where I'm not denied healthcare anarchist, not an individualistic nightmare scenario anarchist.
I’ve been watching Democratic politicians who move toward Republican Fascism. It isn’t only the flaming example of Haley Stevens. I have seen it at the state and local level too.
It is repulsive and can be demoralizing. Watching the union of cowardice and fascism really exposes one to the basest aspects of humanity. 1/

honestly, fuck naysaying and this cringing tendency to undermine ourselves with 'but Canada isn't perfect either in xyz way.' accept the good. people had to fight for that good, and we still do. we can't do that if we refuse to value it.
anybody know a good software or site for making guitar tab?
Don’t sleep on Albania, motherfuckers! (4/4)
These folks have got some serious heart! Anti-government protesters in Tirana clashed with riot pigs and launched burning dumpsters at them.
Albania doesn’t get nearly enough attention, but these rebellious bastards are worth keeping an eye on.
Check this shit out!
On October 1, 2016, anti-fascists distributed flyers in Woodstock, Georgia warning neighbors about an Aryan Nations supporter based in their area. The flyer distribution was in response to “Hammerfest,” a neo-Nazi gathering held that day at a Klan bar in West Georgia. The anti-fascist flyer was the first appearance of “Atlanta Antifascists” as a name. Before then, there were already informal networks of anti-fascists in metro Atlanta, as well as a blog (“Atlanta Antifascist Notes”) used to document what local fascists were doing. With racist activity increasing, a small core of anti-fascists decided that the situation required a more cohesive, organized response. Atlanta Antifascists was born.
Ten years later, we’re still active and still causing grief for fascist and white supremacist organizers. We’ve been through a lot and made our share of errors, especially in the hectic early days. However, we’re proud of our track record—we have not only exposed fascist organizers and thwarted their efforts but helped push fascist groups to collapse. Currently, a far-right and more-or-less openly racist government is in power, so organizing and collective action are more important than ever. We look forward to contributing to the struggles ahead, while continuing with our efforts monitoring and opposing fascist groups outside of state power. We continue to depend on the wider community for tips about white supremacist organizing, so if you have information, please get in touch.
Thank you to our close allies, members past and present, and everyone who has contributed positively to this project through the years. We couldn’t have reached this landmark without you!

“Operation Midnight Climax was established in order to study the effects of LSD on non-consenting individuals. Prostitutes on the CIA payroll were instructed to lure clients back to the safehouses, where they were surreptitiously plied with a wide range of substances, including LSD, and monitored behind one-way glass. The prostitutes were instructed in the use of post-coital questioning to investigate whether the victims could be convinced to involuntarily reveal secrets. Many of the CIA operatives involved in the experiments voluntarily indulged in the drugs and prostitutes for recreational purposes.”

I once worked in a factory making a famous chocolate bar. Hygiene was terrible - mud and even blood would regularly find its way onto the products. Now I'll happily eat food I've dropped on the floor. People think I'm gross, but knowing what I know I can't bring myself to care.

My 12yo wanted to be a borb (rotund orb-shaped bird) - specifically a black-capped chickadee. We worked on his costume all month. I had to take him to school Friday cause he couldn’t carry his backpack. He won the costume contest at school for a second year running and was a hit trick-or-treating!

I will add to this that the implication is also that at no point is the battle between technology-positive and technology-negative parties, in either direction.
Instead, the battle is between technology that is built and operated for domination, destruction, and fear on the one side and technology that is empowering of individuals or small, collective groups, and even moreso, where the human and the end tech are tightly coupled.
For all his other ridiculousness, I think Lucas (and later Gilroy) got this pretty spot-on.
