@jensimmons I think many do care or would, but got overwhelmed by the complexity of navigating an ongoing pandemic.
Being former healthcare, I acted as public health liaison in 2020-21. People came to me with #Covid questions. I explained masks and ventilation, carried an #Aranet4, and (despite burnout) kept educating.
In 2022, I was with friends counting donation money. They used hand sanitizer obsessively while remarking (maskless) how badly they wanted to avoid another Covid infection.
It suddenly hit me that they couldn't process. Some literally & some were so stressed by complexity that they defaulted to hand sanitizer, Airborne, and good vibes for mental health reasons.
I also suddenly realized that they had been repeatedly asking the same questions as if we never talked. Despite my efforts, their knowledge was stuck in Fall of 2020.
I've since given up educating... for now. I'll return to it if the opportunity arises, but I fear only dire consequences would motivate people to try again.
