I posted a clip of hers a while back. She posted a helluva cover of Crazy Train by Black Sabbath upon Ozzy's death last year.
Nini, a "folk metal" musician from Taiwan was about to kick off her US tour when a member of her band was detained and arrested by ICE at the airport yesterday as they were leaving rehearsals on their way to their first show of the tour.
The person they took is a professional throat singer who went to graduate school in the US, has been here over ten years, and is currently on an artist's visa while awaiting processing of their green card.
She put a call out to ask for lawyer help on her socials. She's a stunning talent at using traditional Chinese string instruments to weave next level sonic experiences and has a significant following. She probably already has good offers to help, but if you might be able to lend a hand, you can contact her.

On the back: Will you do it anyway?
i had no idea tim schafer was such a dick but that's disappointing that he's ever said something like this.
but the good news is, i'm not sure anyone's ever been owned this hard while in the literal middle of publicly union busting
Had to take my cat to the veterinary ER last night for an eye wound. It turned out to be more of a head and eyelid laceration from skin irritation so it wasn't that serious, but being in the pet ER for a couple of hours was an experience.
The amount of grief coming in through the door was unnerving. You'd have to have the uncommon combination of nerves of steel plus an oversized compassion meter to be able to handle working in a place like that for more than a month.
Also, to anyone in the West San Jose area, MedVet in Campbell is great.

Leave the sound off. You can guess what’s going on and everyone standing on this side of the inhuman dumpster fire look like they would rather be anywhere else at the moment.

And even if the "models have a pain representation" argument were correct, having the ability to represent pain is not the same thing as a physical experience of pain which literally alters the physical bodies of biological entities.
Chatbot internalities don't exist across answers.
There is not evidence that chatbots have feelings or permanent selfhoods, but because they can write so well, this makes some people be easily misled about them.

Did you ever wonder why you need to await twice to get a `fetch` response body?
Today I learned that the first `await` waits for the response headers. The second one then waits for the body.
You learn something new every day.

Learned something about USB-C today.
Some people would find this appalling, but someone was such a fan of one of my sites that they worked on a redesign idea of it and sent it to me. While she was working on it, she didn't realize there was a complete overhaul in the works.
I've been in the company of creators in the past who'd bristle (with extreme aggression even) at something like this because it's unsolicited feedback. To me, it shows how much someone cared. I can't really use any of this person's design ideas, but I do intend on sitting down and writing back a nice response.
I've been known to give unsolicited feedback to people and efforts I really cared about and I always appreciate whenever someone takes the time to offer the same to me. I don't have a lot of time. I won't be wasting words for my own ego.
Like, if you're secure in who you are and in your own abilities, someone reframing your work back to you shouldn't trigger a tirade even when it's misguided.
I guess this the equivalent of fan fiction for the sub-famous.

PRO TIP: When you're troubleshooting a custom search engine, don't use terms like "trick or treat" because to the search, it's trick OR treat and you'll be like why aren't I getting my Halloween results?

Well that’s one way to split the difference. I see both a gulf of america and a Gulf of Mexico in the third image.
My favorite part of configuring Apache Solr search is playing the game of "why the hell is that one article I want to bury always the first result?"
@dtm for everyone US who doesn't have insurance and wants to get a Covid shot, please take a look at GoodRx for a discount code that'll drop the price down dramatically.
The price you're always going to be told if you walk up is the extortion price. Even if you were insured, but still had to pay out of pocket because your plan sucked, you still wouldn't be paying that price.
You'd be paying something comparable to the "negotiated price" that's shown on GoodRx. Just be aware that the GoodRx price isn't always accurate, but you can always back out and go somewhere else with your GoodRx code.
In my area the GoodRx price is consistently in the $130-$160 range for a Covid shot. With the number of results available all in the same range, the pricing is likely dependable.
