This might tickle @regehr
@dev the best kind of correct!!
@dev *
Send in the clones.
@dev I am both too high and not high enough for this.
@dev @TheBreadmonkey A keyboard warrior steels himself and steps out, blinking, into the light of the real world and says ‘yes, even here I can make a difference’
He (and yes, it is always a he) is blissfully unaware that IRL being a pedantic annoying shit who always wants the last word can get you smacked in the mouth.
@davidbcohen @dev @TheBreadmonkey
I would have thought the same, until it turned out that the store clerk was just as much of a "keyboard warrior" by insisting that strawberries aren't berries.
@kallisti @davidbcohen @dev @TheBreadmonkey, s/clerk/assistant/
@kallisti @dev @TheBreadmonkey Yes, they are definitely in on the conspiracy 😂
@davidbcohen @dev @TheBreadmonkey
Counterpoint: Fuck Tesco.
There is literally NO inch of ground I'd be willing to concede to a corporation to choose their own version of the truth.
I don't care how silly it is, or how little it matters to 99.99% of people buying bananas. I expect the party with most of the power in any given situation to at least be constrained by the truth. That's the bare minimum to ask.
@petealexharris @dev @TheBreadmonkey I respectfully suggest that if you want to fuck Tesco that haranguing a low wage employee who has zero power to set discount policy is not an effective way of striking against their corporate ignorance.
@davidbcohen @dev @TheBreadmonkey
Sure. But the objection is valid. I didn't see anything about haranguing the employee. If they can't give the discount, they can't. Their personal legal position wasn't in question at all as far as i can tell.
@dev the berry offer better apply to pumpkins and melons too. All berries means all berries.
@dev Either they're wrong about excluding strawberries, or they're wrong for excluding bananas.
@UkeleleEric @dev Either go with the culinary definition that includes raspberries and strawberries, or go with the botanical definition that includes bananas, melons, squash, pumpkins, and chili peppers. You can't just make up your own definition and then refuse to tell anyone what it is.
@dev Tesco need to elaborate on what berries are included, if it includes raspberries and blueberries, but not strawberries.
@dev okay, the strawberry one is bullshit.
Yes they’re technically aggregate accessory fruits but multiple languages call them “<something>berry”
@dev "Ah, sir, I see you're using the botanical definition of berry. At this store we use the grocer definition which is 'a berry is anything the fucking regional manager says is a fucking berry' end quote, sir. I hope this clears it up, sir."
@dev The answer is always the kitchen answer, not the scientific classification answer. That’s the understood answer no matter how much someone wants to argue.
Tomato is a vegetable because it’s a vegetable in the kitchen. We call it peanuts and use them like nuts, even if they are not.
But a strawberry is definitely a kitchen berry. It’s used the same way and has berry right there in the name.
@dev this berry thing seems to be the nerd version of The Aristocrats.
@dev i heard about a legal case where the jaffa cakes company had to bake a large jaffa cake to prove they were cakes and not biscuits for some kind of tax reason so as far as i know you can win with this bullshit in the uk
@dev On the issue of whether strawberries are berries, I have in my freezer a bag of Tesco frozen berries. This contains frozen strawberries. Seems like Tesco are trying to have it both ways.
@dev they gone and removed the post and locked it now.
Post removed by reddit's filters, they're clearly in on the conspiracy
