@kboyd @lzg Building muscle. If there is one thing the middle-aged female body does not wish to do unless you give it a lot of extra protein, it is put on shoulder muscle.

@evacide @lzg ah! Hmm. I could do with actual muscles, but I think I'd have to start trying first. And protein wouldn't enter the picture until after that, I think.
(I was hoping it helped in some way to make exercise less horrid.)

@kboyd @lzg Honestly, the only way to make exercise less horrid is to find some way of moving around that you enjoy, so that you are out having fun instead of completing a chore.

I happen to really like biking, so whenever I bike to the store and discover it's closed, I remind myself: There's no such thing as a wasted bike trip.
However, I have yet to discover such a thing for strength training. (I *do* enjoy picking up heavy objects. Maybe I should become a mover...)

@kboyd @evacide @lzg Probably the best way to make exercise less horrid is to do things the hard way —walk to the shop for your groceries, use public transit, make the car a last resort etc. Get some headphones, listen to some tunes as you go.
Driving to a gym to stare at a wall is never going to be fun.
We’ve made ‘exercise’ a product you subscribe to, but it used to be just ‘being alive’. 🤣

@gavin57 @kboyd @evacide I exercise every day, and I can't say I love it. I do it because it's part of a routine, and I'm good at those, so now I don't think about it and just do it. it becomes less horrid, but never maybe never great. just a thing to do, like brushing your teeth, but for remaining somewhat mobile and strong when I'm older.

@evacide Is the protein and creatine for muscle recovery or cognitive boost? I definitely notice a difference in my ADHD depending on the type of breakfast I have, so I've been debating adding protein powder to my routine. I'm curious what your experience has been, if that's why you're using it.

@mpark Muscle recovery. In my experience, the cognitive benefits have not been significant, but I also haven't been looking for them.

@evacide In the 90s, I did web work for some epsom salts marketers. They were genuinely nice humans and I have had a soft spot for epsom salts ever since. We are never too young for epsom salts!
