Saw some beautiful and inspiring quilts at the Festival of Quilts today! The motorcycle won Best Original Design, and I saw loads of techniques I'm planning to use in future. Also spoke to someone on the Quilts For Care Leavers stand, and am planning to make something for them in future.

Thank you for the closeup! The base quilt is certainly a vintage one. Look at the aging fabric. I love how she superimposed translucent fabrics on a classical vintage quilt to give it a new life in a very contemporary technique but with a classic theme (flowers in a realistic/elegant design) it is both clever and poetical.

The making of videos of the flying geese one are great. Particularly the ones when Christine puts all of the collaborative blocks together (Scrap Fabric Love). It’s nice seeing the quilt here.
I love how the flowers overflow and overwhelm the traditional quilt below. This is a stunningly beautiful patchwork.
The other two shows the diversity of subjects and interesting techniques. I wish I was able to see them all.
@35millimetre Please share more if you can. Your photos are great and each of the ones you showed called me back for a second, a third closer look or more. Like the black and white which would probably stop me for a while irl.
I should plan to go to Sainte Marie aux Mines in September. 4 hours of train is doable and that would console me for living too far from Birmingham.😂

@Filambulle I think it was a patterned brown/gold colour, but not metallic. I thought the psychedelic One Quilt Wonder technique was perfect too! They're such fun quilts to make and arrange.
@35millimetre i am curious to try it, but it has little chances to really get on top of my priorities. I content myself by watching videos by other person making them, or trying to spot the motives in the ones I see here and there (on the net, never irl sadly)
@Filambulle it can be expensive to doas well, as you need 7 copies of a panel or repeating pattern.
@Filambulle the black and white one was part of a small artists exhibition, I wish I'd taken a photo of the artist's name!

@35millimetre Haha I do. Not sure the same can be said for them 🤣. There's also a transformers convention nearby which also has a number of my friends at. It's all happening in Birmingham this weekend.

@c_reider yeah! I love seeing quilts that are wonky as a design choice, and especially using a pattern that's typically so dependent on getting everything lined up straight, like flying geese.
