@dnanian @siracusa how does the turbo mode work?!? Using the filesystem feature that Hyperspace uses by not actually copying the data but making a reference to it?

@dnanian According to the app, I’ve been a registered user for 15 years. Version 4 is a instabuy at full price. I wouldn't take an upgrade even if there was one. Thanks for making an awesome app.

@dnanian yay, congrats! Does SD!4 still have the ability to kick off a back up when an external drive is plugged in? (This is how I get my wife to back up her MacBook)

@dnanian Upgraded and re-registered! As someone who used your BRIEF text editor back in the day — happy to see this wonderful refresh!

    Thanks for upgrading!

@dnanian Congrats on release. v4 doesn't pickup jobs from v3, right, I need to create everything from scratch?

@sashk It doesn't import your schedules, no. You'll want to delete (or turn off) the old ones and create new ones.

But the files are fine, it won't re-copy things that are there and correct. You just have to create jobs for each…it'll help you get used to the new interface.

@dnanian Awesome, thanks! I just wanted to confirm I didn't miss something during the first start.
UI is much better, and copy progress is more informative. Great job!

@dnanian my computer is configured to never go into sleep mode, but I lock it when step away (or it locks itself). backup got interrupted because "it went to sleep”. is it some kind of apple thingie which disables something while computer is locked? (doing bootable mirror backup)

@sashk Yes. The replicator won't run properly if the screen locks. For that type of backup, keep the screen awake and unlocked until it's done.

@dnanian Gotcha. That's exactly what I though. Thanks!

Is there any way to add sleep/lock prevention to SuperDuper! so the system stays awake while this type of backup is running? Some video players, such as mpv and VLC, already have this option, and I sometimes abuse it instead of using a dedicated keep-awake app, because I can't remember it's name :)

@sashk I actually have it in there…I'm not sure why it's not keeping the screen awake reliably.

@dnanian ah, it might be also me locking machine when leaving. Will be careful on what I'm pressing while backup is in progress.

@sashk Forcing a lock during a replication will definitely cause a failure. For regular Smart Updates (and non-replication erase), it's OK, but may require a follow-up run when you return, since some files become inaccessible when you lock.

@cdf1982 Yeah, bit off a LOT here: app, web site, manual, etc, etc. But hopefully it shows…

@dnanian There’s so much after code and testing…

I have this insane idea to launch (soon-ish?) version 5 of my IP camera app on macOS the same day I will finally ship the separate new apps for iPhone, iPad, Watch and TV, and have still to pin down the website and try the always unsuccessful marketing push, so in a way I can feel your pain.

In another way, though, I don’t touch Users files in the moment they go and safeguard them, so the amount of stress we get is really not comparable…

@cdf1982 Yeah, that's a lot of code to push at once!

And totally: there's so much more to this than just code-and-test (although there was a huge amount of that). It's hard to be ready for all of it, but I had a huge checklist to work through and mostly didn't mess up…I missed a few URLs, and was able to recover with some careful Apache rewrites…

@dnanian I have yet to install v4, but I really like the separation between interface and “server” on paper. And the speed sounds sweet.

Big congrats again! I hope you’ll celebrate properly IRL, we often do not do that enough…

@cdf1982 It's a much nicer model for the user, and enables things that I wasn't able to do before.

At the same time, it obviously added a lot of complexity that involved many months of design and testing.

On your Time Machine text, I wanna say things have changed with drive costs over the years… however, it’s always cheap, no matter the cost, lol.

Also, love the logo and animation!
    Upgrading today! 💪🥰

    @Luke *Comparatively cheap*, of course.

Glad you like the icon & animation! Fun to do. (The Iconfactory did the icon...I did the animation.)

@dnanian Congratulations on the launch of the new version! SuperDuper! is the most essential, most important app I have on my Mac. I’ve purchased it twice over the years just so I can give you some extra money. I’ll be upgrading as soon as I get back to my keyboard. 🙂
