Partial eclipse from Germany. Really happy with how this shot turned out. Taken with an Acuter Elite Phoenix 40 and a ToupTek G3M678M.

This is (almost) the raw version straight from the camera. Since I used a monochrome camera, the Sun obviously has no color.
I prefer the solar flares to appear brighter. Simply inverting the image would result in a white background, so I manually manipulate the histogram instead. Rather than inverting the brightest areas from black to white, they remain black, which creates this bright outer rim.

@sn0opy despite everything, the fact that you can photograph the flares and spots from all the way down here is a little surreal. Maybe it's the eclipse that links it to what I *just* saw, that elevates it from another picture of the sun to one taken by a human :)
@sn0opy That is a lovely capture, the prominence detail along the limb is doing a lot of work here.
The mono sensor is the unsung part of it. One channel, no Bayer interpolation, so every pixel is a real measurement rather than a reconstruction. That is close to the opposite of where most image processing has gone, where the software confidently fills in detail it never actually saw.
Good to see a picture that is entirely evidence.
@sn0opy how come you got different sunspots than everyone else?
@tyzbit This was shot on a special solar telescope. It uses filters to make a different layer (chromosphere) visible. So instead of sun spots, you can see actual flares shot into space by the sun.
@sn0opy
Love the flares you captured!
@sn0opy I've resisted the urge to buy an Acuter 40 and now I know I shouldn't 😅
congrats, incredible shot!
@corpsmoderne Thank you! Glad I did buy one. Unfortunately, the photos I took with my Fuji came out rather unspectacular
@sn0opy Oh wow, that is impressive 😮
@sn0opy
You win!🏆
@sn0opy OK, everyone else take your eclipse photos and go home!
jkjk. they're all great, but this one... wow.
Fantastic!
@sn0opy wow, sublime!
@sn0opy I just did a low whistle in response without even thinking about it. Amazing shot.
@sn0opy Holy shit you can almost make out the granular structure of the chromosphere! O.O
cc @RueNahcMohr
Stunning!
@sn0opy you show this to people and they will still somehow claim that the earth is a sphere!
@sn0opy whoa, amazing shot
H alpha is always so detailed 😌🖖
@sn0opy what an incredible shot! Thank you for sharing
@sn0opy wow! Beautiful!
