Oct 13, 2026, 7:33 AM@Tania_and_Waldemar @Natasha_Jay Aliens is a film where still no one listens to the smart women and even more people die.

Had a crush on her I have to admit.
anomalykete@sunny.gardenOct 13, 2026, 7:32 AM@Natasha_Jay Someone basically said the Alien movie is similar to needing an abortion. (https://chaos.social/@thefinalstrawradio/117422516493021781)
PhosphenesPhosphenes@mastodon.socialOct 13, 2026, 11:09 AMPrometheus was even more explicitly that. The female protagonist has an alien monster in her womb and asks the robot doctor for an abortion. The robodoc says it's only programmed for men!
She has to improvise...

@Natasha_Jay Love the review!
coscos@fosstodon.orgOct 13, 2026, 7:47 AM@Natasha_Jay otherwise great review but how it can get only four stars? It's one of best scifi movies ever.
catraxx :antifa:catraxx@tech.lgbtOct 13, 2026, 7:51 AM@Natasha_Jay There are two more sequels of people not listening to her, too!
kolyakolya@social.cologneOct 13, 2026, 8:05 AM@Natasha_Jay The script was famously written without gender roles, but nevermind.

Wombatadontjbutt58@infosec.exchangeOct 13, 2026, 8:45 AM@Natasha_Jay I would have said that was Aliens.
I always thought Ripley got a bit lucky in Alien.
Made much of her own luck too.
Zimmiebob_zim@infosec.exchangeOct 13, 2026, 1:18 PM@tjbutt58 @Natasha_Jay She made a bunch of smart decisions, particularly early in Alien.
Ripley: Wait a minute. If we let it in, the ship could be infected. You know the quarantine procedure. Twenty-four hours for decontamination.
Dallas: He could die in twenty-four hours. Open the hatch.
Ripley: Listen to me, if we break quarantine, we could all die.
tbgosalveztbgosalvez@vivaldi.netOct 13, 2026, 8:54 AM@Natasha_Jay i totally forgot about the cat
- PhosphenesPhosphenes@mastodon.socialOct 13, 2026, 11:11 AM
Yeah I don't think the franchise ever followed up about the cat. Was he also frozen for 50 years? How is he doing now?

@Phosphenes the cat is pulling all the strings all along...

That's Goose
Oct 13, 2026, 8:55 AM@Natasha_Jay The smart women. If they had all listened to Lambert everyone would have been ok. In fact Veronica Cartwright says as much on the Blu-Ray commentary. Kane would have never even have been impregnated. Lambert ftw!
MegatronicThronBanksmegatronicthronbanks@mastodon.socialOct 13, 2026, 9:07 AMTruth!
SelSelvari21106@mastodon.socialOct 13, 2026, 9:34 AM@Natasha_Jay How'd the cat survive? I KNOW it wouldn't have listened to her, cats never do.
Ondřej ŽižkaOndrejZizka@witter.czOct 13, 2026, 10:14 AM@Natasha_Jay yes, and it is a movie, not a reality. In reality, smart persons are mostly ignored regardless of sex.
Chaotic Normienormjess@tech.lgbtOct 13, 2026, 10:28 AM@Natasha_Jay its more than that
its the first film that passed the Bechdel test
two named women had a conversation on screen thats NOT about a man

@Natasha_Jay Looks like a cat, but it's actually a Flerken 😅

AnjaMaristya@norden.socialOct 13, 2026, 12:03 PM@Natasha_Jay also a good film about why decon protocols should be adhered to.

Ellie‽ (Radio Edit)ellieraejaye@chaosfem.twOct 13, 2026, 3:52 PM@Natasha_Jay I think my favourite movie description is of Robocop: A policeman is killed in the line of duty and is made to go back to work.

derptroncrazyeddie@mastodon.socialOct 13, 2026, 3:58 PM@Natasha_Jay Some were listening, they just had contravening orders that explicitly discarded her concerns.
If they'd just told her I'm sure she would have said, "Oh. Proceed then."
max_powermax_power@chaos.socialOct 13, 2026, 6:19 PM@Natasha_Jay But lets not forget, the other smart women in this movie dies. The Alien did nothing wrong.
geolawgeolaw@aus.socialOct 13, 2026, 10:58 PM@Natasha_Jay does the cat also listen to the smart woman?

Ridley Scott had the plan to hire Bruce Willis as Lieutenant Ripley but Sigourney Weaver insisted so much that he hired her instead.
A masterpiece (which would have not occurred with Willis), so much that Ripley as hero reverses all the codes of the 'genre'. It is the woman that slays the dragon !
