I watched TNG when it was first aired (although technically it was on cable"). I've watched the whole thing while it was steaming on Netflix at least 4 times and now on my Plex for #5. It's kind of like Rocky Horror, I mouth along with all the lines and bring props and scream "look out Data!".
Oct 20, 2026, 8:52 PMhaha, me too 🖖
@grumpygamer Only 5 times? A newcomer, then! ^^
@grumpygamer Fully equipped android!
@grumpygamer I started a TNG rewatch recently, too. I’m in season 2 now. A lot of people say the later seasons are better. But I really liked most of season 1. Everything is new and the style is a lot like TOS.
What I found out so far:
Most of the time when Riker is in the background, he stares at someone or squints one eye skeptically. 😄
@grumpygamer when I was a child TNG aired on german public broadcast. What a great time back then...
Oct 20, 2026, 9:16 PM@grumpygamer Still no HD DS9 and Voyager in 2026 freaking tragic.
Watching random crew in danger: “Watch out Riker!” “Watch out La Forge!” “Watch out Ensign Riga!”
Watching Worf in danger: “…”
@vampiress @grumpygamer "look out whoever's going after Worf!"
What did you do your whole life?
Watching TNG!
Only?
No! Also VOY, DS9, ENT and surly TOS!
Oct 20, 2026, 9:47 PM@grumpygamer for me it was "aired".
I had my dad turn the satellite dish on the roof so I can watch it on Sky One - A Part of the British sky broadcasting network. Which is up to now the most British sentence ever. Well, next to "go up to the roundabout", but that was more Scottish.
Anyway, the whole point was to watch it workout German translation because I needed to have it on the original, intended way.
@grumpygamer Correction sir, that's 'blown out.'
@grumpygamer "Ron streaming from Plex" is my new Darmok for watching TNG.
@grumpygamer Do you skip That Episode?
@grumpygamer I’m a bit embarrassed. I only watched it when it first aired on broadcast TV. Sounds like everyone thinks it still holds up. Maybe time for a rewatch.
@DavidBFox Skip the first season. Riker's beard saved TNG.
@grumpygamer @DavidBFox Yup, plus he somehow got the hang of "acting"
@grumpygamer @DavidBFox When I moved to a new city, I got access to a TV channel that was running five episodes a week, but they were already on season 3, I think. But I watched along, figuring I might ot get another chance. When they reached the end of the last season, they immediately went back to season 1.
What I'm trying to say here is that beardless Riker scares me.
@grumpygamer Haven't watched Star Trek in many years, but I remember that watching episodes in too rapid succession messes with my head.
Some character will say that some technology (transporters, holodecks, etc) is completely safe, and all I can think is "What are you talking about, that thing has had like five catastrophic malfunctions just this month!"
