For anyone it may concern, to see open PR's for all your github reposatories, the search is is:pr is:open user:[username[

WTF github If someone makes a pull request on a reposatory I own, it should be assigned to me. Yes? Am I crazy?

But also she stood out to you because she was wearing a sports bra in the gym and you think that’s “barely there” and suggest it’s provocative? Do you approach women on the beach in bikinis with far less coverage and tell them they’re whores or whatever?

This is being re-circulated because of the Shane Gillis monologue but illustrates how common this bullshit is for women in the gym and it was published in January: slate.com/advice/2026/...

My mate had a big gong in his bedroom.
"What's that?" I asked.
He said, "it's a speaking clock"
"How does it work?" I asked.
He picked up a hammer and hit it, and two seconds later a voice came through the wall shouting,
"For fu*k sake! It's half past two in the morning!"

@VE3RWJ @TheQuinbox Totally understandable.

I've said this to almost everyone that has replied here, so I’ll say it again. Backtalk is absolutely the right answer to just install, update when updates come, and be certain that it will just work as intended. It's the screen reader that Google *should* be shipping, and I will continue to push on them for it.

Edit: looks like it’s been shuttered.

pyconf dot org is a fake event, a scam.

Notes:

- Domain registered after CFP closed.

- Venue doesn't admit its existence: https://fortmason.org/events/

- AI gen headshots, and speakers who aren't, in 100% of the the companies my network can see into, employees at those companies and never have been. Those people don't exist.

A couple of the listed "sponsors'" corporate legal teams have already been advised and word is they're furious.

The invisible hand of the market at work

We blew past our first goal of $20,000 on https://superswingdistricts.org/2026/ !

We've raised it to $40,000. Let's go!

(Last year we managed to get to $70,000, which was great, but insufficient. Let's see if we can beat it this time!)

SandFly 0.1.3 is out.

SandFly is a screen reader for Android. It is a fork of Backtalk, which is a fork of Google's TalkBack. It runs on phones and tablets with Android 8 or later, Wear OS watches and Android TV.

SandFly was previously Backtalk Aaron, my fork of Backtalk. Many of my changes went into Backtalk as pull requests and were merged. Keeping the rest in a fork that tracked Backtalk got harder with each change, so on 19 October I split it into a separate app with its own name, app ID, signing key and releases.

Backtalk is a great project and deserves support. SandFly would not exist without it. I will keep contributing to Backtalk, and will aim to keep those contributions applicable to its core mission. If you use Backtalk, keep using it, report bugs to it and contribute to it: https://github.com/trypsynth/backtalk

New in SandFly 0.1.0, at the split:
* Scripts are written in Lua instead of JavaScript.
* Shizuku grants the permissions that otherwise need adb.
* Stable releases and development builds, with an in-app updater.

New in 0.1.1 to 0.1.3:
* Settings > More > Report a problem sends a report or suggestion without a GitHub account.
* SandFly's own strings are translated into 26 locales.
* Sound themes can give a sound and a vibration to changing the reading control, the stages of an edge gesture, moving the cursor by character, word, line or paragraph, and wrapping to the next row of a grid.
* Gboard no longer types the last key under the finger when the finger slides off the keyboard, including the voice typing key.
* Typing no longer lags when the keyboard's spell checker does not respond, as with PixelBoard.
* Compose text fields no longer read the typed word and "End of field" after each word.
* The braille keyboard types without delay in SandFly's own fields.
* Selection mode keeps a Characters, Words, Lines or Paragraphs reading control.
* The find voice command finds text in web pages.
* On Android 16 and later, containers named with aria-labelledby are read, as with posts on X.
* The gesture start and gesture end sounds are removed.

Backtalk Aaron users: its last build offers SandFly as an update, and SandFly copies its settings and custom labels.

@Quarky @Mastodon Mastodon already has a translation function build in, if your instances has that enabled.

@marjolica @Mastodon Nova reminds me of the #Noia buttons that I used to like (Firefox and Seamonkey?) and also Netscape 6 that had rounded buttons. I am sure that there were other examples.

I guess everyone goes through the "rounded icons" phase and right now it is the Firefox UX team and the Mastodon web UX team that are experiencing the (short lived) joy of rounded things.

We will eventually pivot back to sharp clean edges on windows, window elements and buttons.

"I keep coming back to this graph because it’s so eye-popping, almost impossible to believe. As you see in the legend, the blue line is data centers. The grey line is everything else. Everything else. Commercial properties. Rental properties. Single family homes. Multiple family homes. Pick your preferred flavor of development, NIMBY, YIMBY, urban, rural, it’s in there. You basically have rapid data center growth and everything else contracting."

We didn’t want to require you to have a GitHub profile to report issues or suggest ideas, so starting now you can do it on our new community forum.

You can also vote for other people’s ideas to keep things manageable. It’s the main place we’ll be looking for feedback!

#Mastodon is getting a new look in our upcoming 5.0 release.

We wrote a bit more about our design process and how we approach community input. If you’re on mastodon.social you will see the new design tomorrow, on Tuesday. We rely on your feedback!
