Woke up this morning to the kid upstairs trying to come through our apartment floor with a fit to rival all fits. He was also hitting the wall. I yelled stop it and my Mother yelled stop it, guess what, he did. Maybe his parents need to do that every once and a while.

@EmeraldRose I'm about to sound like one of those grumpy old people, but parents these days are so incredibly permissive. Half the shit I see these kids do my parents never would have tolerated that. Holy bananas! I'm glad you got them to stop, but where the fuck are the parents? I asked this question a lot and so far I have no answer.

@startrek2025 @EmeraldRose I am telling you what if my parents caught me banging on the walls of an apartment or a hotel my butt would be outside doing chores, pulling weeds because their logic was that if I had enough energy to be disruptive, then I needed to redirect it to something productive. But oh no these days it's all about letting little Johnny express himself and when people have a problem with it suddenly, they are the problem because they expect people to have standards when dealing with others.

There is a place at a time and just like children with autism if they have stimming behavior that makes them feel better such as yelling or rocking then parents and teachers need to teach them about appropriate times and places to engage in these behaviors. This disability as an excuse thing is bullshit. And it's why I see kids who are in high school and they are not going to be able to function in the adult world because nobody has ever told them no. Anyway, don't even get me started lol

His stemming is not what I'm worried about, it is literally his fits that consist of him screaming, kicking the wall, stomping on the floor so hard popcorn ceiling comes down from our own ceiling. And all they say are like, "Oh well we're trying to calm him down, we don't know why he went off." Probably because, you told him no. no is a bad word. It means you can't have the thing you want. And the shit thing is, his Father used to just give in, literally.

@bmoore123 @EmeraldRose @startrek2025 Also, if he is older, and he punches someone or punches someone's property, the chances are very high that they will call the police, and there are very sad stories with very bad endings where this kind of situation happened and the person in question did not have a happy ending we'll just put it that way, so it is extra incumbent upon the parents while the child is small to figure out a plan for these behaviors and work on getting them under control before something like that occurs.

@pawpower @startrek2025 i know, but I don't think they want to put him in a respite care home, just make it everyone else's problem, and I am not saying that because I'm callous, but if you cannot handle your child when he does things like this, then you need serious help because that is not okay.
@EmeraldRose @startrek2025 There are respite services that will come to your house depending on the state where you live, but also yes they need to figure something out because if nobody is teaching him, there is a potential for these behaviors to escalate and eventually someone is going to tell him no, and it is not going to be in a way that the parents would prefer.
@pawpower @startrek2025 Yeah. I took my anti-depressants so I didn't just go up there and scream at him to stop being a little spoiled brat. He has a habbit of crying when he doesn't get his way, and not even real tears, simply crying because he isn't getting what he wants, and if that doesn't work, he kicks, screams, hits things, and people... It's rediculous. He has already gotten one more strike before he is kicked out of public school completely and off the bus.

Come and clean the house and then when you’re done cleaning the house, they will have us go and pull all the weed out of the yard and then when we’re done doing all the chores, they would still probably have us kneeling on some rice. I don’t know if any of you’ve done that it’s not fun.

This is why kids don’t do stuff like that around here. and if they do well, they will thoroughly regret it. there’s a lot of things that happen over here that I don’t agree with, but yeah, this is partly one of them. The only thing I would take out of it is the kneeling on rice.

And no should definitely be a word in a parents vocabulary, but there is punishment, and then there is abuse. If your child is being "disruptive," yes, perhaps a punishment is in order, but some things just shouldn't be done. Kneeling on rice, that is definitely one of them. Subjecting anyone, let alone a child, to extended periods of pain is simpley torcher/abuse, know matter the case there in.

@pawpower I have no idea. They blame everything on his autism but don't stay outside to watch him. They probably di dnot give him what he wanted and so he pitched a fit. If you tell him no, he goes into full drag out drop down meltdown mode and refuses to cooperate. I don't think they even have him in a specialized program. I know that autism is a disorder. i know that, but I don't want him to come through my floor. He literally went all up into someone's house when they weren't home and is obsessed with the kids next door. They can't even go outside without him running down the stairs. I understand, but I don't. Can you explain some of that to me, because I'm bout to walk up the stairs and tell the parents to parent.
