"Tech CEOs in 2026: 'We spent billions to hopefully one day have an ai that can make people feel like it's portraying real emotions for tv, but we need way more money to do it'
Jim Henson in 1955: 'yeah so I stuck some ping pong balls to a bit of old felt and called it Kermit'"
@Natasha_Jay Now I'm trying to imagine a Kermit, who sucks dry what life is left in our planet and lays waste to the very concepts of democracy, intellectual honesty and human empathy. But maybe that role should go to another muppet.
@Natasha_Jay@tech.lgbt ..it seems to go in the opposite direction. AI sticks its arm and hand inside people and makes them babble and jump according to the AI output.
And it's neither funny nor cute nor educational. And especially it is poison for kids who just avoid learning to think themselves.
@Natasha_Jay oh gosh i never saw this picture, it makes me so sad !
(so.. we have in our family, Bob the Frog, another kind of Kermit, and he participates in all kind of family activities :) )
@Natasha_Jay In the 18th century capitalists saw that a large mill full of automatic looms powered by a steam engine would quickly be more profitable than hundreds of hand loom weavers working in their cottages. That thinking has driven industrialisation ever since. I'm not convinced though it will ever apply to LLM. Human creativity is cheaper and the results more useful.
@Natasha_Jay 🥺 eyes a bit damp for some reason
@Natasha_Jay epic picture <3
@Natasha_Jay The power of imagination!
@Natasha_Jay A visionary taken from us too soon.
@Natasha_Jay
"discarded turquoise spring coat"
@Natasha_Jay I don't recall Jim Henson ever demanding trillions of taxpayer's money to make the Muppets possible.
