@ai6yr from yesterday, eastern CT. This morning at 6:30 went out and gave the whole unit a good cleaning and inspection because this was hard to believe (it read 112 at one point.) Reading 103 right now (13:14 Eastern).

@ai6yr I am in NH and my cat kept asking to go for a walk so I tried to take him out at 8pm last night. It was still 91°, he didn’t seem to mind it but it was unacceptable to me after five minutes.

It's that "black"/dark grey color labelled "Extreme." It explains that on an another table; not even joking.

@ai6yr Well, the mark "extreme" at 92-93°F makes me smile a bit, since in Europe we had, until last week, a stable 43°C / 110°F: slightly more than extreme then

@ai6yr Right! Then 43°C with 78% humidity, registered last week in Italy, gives (with a rough online calculator) around 39°C / 102°F, still a bit over extreme: here's why it felt quite hot outside!
Lucky that I wasn't in Spain, where they had slightly over one thousands deaths due to it.

@ai6yr Current (12:30 PM CDT) wet bulb temperature in my back yard in Huntsville AL: 85.7°F (air temperature 92.9°F, Relative humidity 74%). Needless to say, I'm inside!

@ai6yr There are so few people who understand WBGT and that you cannot outsmart it or game it or avoid it.
The high-80s of this measurement is pushing the threshold at which the human body can no longer cool off properly, and heat stroke and death are entirely possible.
I wish more people who worked outdoors knew about this and that we had better ways to measure it hyper-locally. I always tried to educate my volunteers about it and schedule our work hours around it. Humidity plus heat is no joke.
@arisummerland @ai6yr Just ran into this a couple of days ago. Someone insisted that because they have a condition that causes them to sweat a lot all they needed was a bunch of fans. Luckily they were willing to listen when I explained that, when wet bulb is high enough, fans just make it worse, but it makes me think that there are a lot of people out there who think "fans are enough, it's fine."
Get them to read the first chapter of "ministry for the future" - it illustrates it better than anything else I've seen. Too ba it's also the best part of the book...
