The rescue organization where I adopted my cat is running a raffle so they can set up good air filtration/ventilation for the dogs, cats, employees, and visitors.

They split the pot with the raffle winner. It’s $10 for 10 tickets but you can buy more or less (I assume). Or you can just donate, but at the time of this post the raffle prize is up to $512.

I am poor but I bought 10 tickets, not just because I love the kitties and dogs, but because my old best friend works there and she takes no covid precautions except vaccines (if that) and I don’t want her to get covid regularly or spread it to innocent animals and people. She’s in NH, your payment for the raffle tickets will show that it was made to the Florida branch of this organization because that’s the “home office”. They take pets out of kill shelters in Florida and bring them up here.

What happens to boosts if I block someone?

Someone boosts one of my posts
I discover they are a giant asshole and block them.

Do people who follow them still see the boost?
Does their boost get deleted/blocked some how?

What happens if my server applies a server block? Does that get rid of the boost?

[EDIT:] Having discussed we are not certain and it probably depends on software but are fairly sure that boosts will remain boosted and working after blocking someone.

I'm also reasonably sure that the boost will remain if you delete the post after blocking someone as your server shouldn't send the delete notification to the blocked server.

I have a question that I should probably ask the pharmacist, but Walgreens has been taken over by Christian Nationals so nah.

If I change my weekly estradiol patch on Saturday & the it falls off on Tuesday, why TF would I change one week patch I replace it with on a Saturday when it should last until Tuesday? It doesn’t know my usual replacement day is Saturday.

Is this just because “haha small brain woman won’t know how to keep track” (despite the fact that most women manage a calendar for multiple family members)? Or am I being dumb & there’s a good reason for this??

So I found a cricut maker in ewaste. It needs new rollers but appears fine. However cricut are chunts and have locked the serial number out of their eco system. (I presume the previous owner upgraded).

Anywayyyy, one very spiteful detour in software development later and I've found a hilariously stupid way to regain access to the device (and possibly a bit of a flaw with cricut cloud....).

I built using a RP2040 a USB CDC Serial mitm device that emulates the pid/vid ect..., and detects when the serial number is being asked in the serial protocol, replaces that message with the serial number plus 1.

I don't have any accessories for the device so I can't show it off, but it now moves and is paired with my account.

Fridge failure due to heat is real in homes, too. You can likely prevent it easily. And it's not just fridges. Read on.

About 5 years ago here, a "heat dome" event pushed temps into the 40s °C. We were holed up in the bedroom with the portable aircon cranked, and that just made it a bit less broiling. My computer (Macbook) was dragging and hanging for no apparent reason. It sucked.

I went to the kitchen to refill my water. The fridge was screaming, its (variable-speed) compressor running at a pitch alarmingly far higher than I'd ever heard, and it wasn't cooling down to its setpoint.

I pulled the fridge away from the wall, took off the back cover, and found the consenser coils clogged up with lint and dust and cruft. So I used the vacuum cleaner and a canned-air duster to clean them. Immediately the compressor pitch dropped. Still high, but not as high.

I pointed a floor fan so as to push air past the back of the fridge, and the compressor slowed down further. I put the fridge's back cover back on; it serves to guide air through the condenser coils. I left the fridge spaced further from the wall than usual, to allow more airflow.

I went (sweatily!) back to the bedroom, opened the Macbook, and found it similarly full of lint and cruft. Canned air, etc; powered back up, it ran at normal speed without hanging.

Half an hour later, the fridge was at setpoint and holding.

Speaking of air conditioners: those, too!

@fivetonsflax The one thing they do point out as the "negative side effect" is the "what if I had gotten this sooner?" thoughts. The feeling of suddenly having the 100 radio channels that have been playing in the background all the time drastically reduced, can make you feel a bit down when you think "how would life have been if I got this sooner".

It can be worth preparing for, it did not hit me much but others get that a bit harder.

But compared to "I'm hitting a wall, I have less and less energy as I get older, and my coping mechanism depends on me having energy, how am I ever going to manage this much longer?" mindset, I'd say the latter is a lot more likely to ruin your life.
