City mayors in fact, any state level official should be or must physically stop the operation guys. None of this is constitutional; it should not be given any legitimacy whatsoever.
If the city officials are not stopping this physically, if the governor isn’t pulling out the National Guard to shut these operations down, these selected officials are not fulfilling their oath of office.

Jun 2, 2025, 1:32 PM@GhostOnTheHalfShell @jwildeboer Unfortunately, while San Diego in general is pretty liberal and not welcoming to government action like this, the mayors of some cities in the county (such El Cajon and Santee in the east, and Chula Vista in the south of the county) are much more supportive of the administration and its immigration policies.
I understand mileage will vary. Unless people say something politicians don't know any better and they will. They will follow the money handed to them..
Residents do not need to tolerate an fascist allied or adjacent politician. They should be given an earful just like Republican representatives have in their own town halls.

The eastern regions of San Diego have long been known to be significantly more socially conservative than the rest of the area. (There's a reason that the city of Santee gets nicknamed "Klantee", for example...)

Yeah, we are a pretty mixed bunch here in SoCal. The right wingers are louder than when I lived in TX. in fact, most of the people I knew there were left leaning. 🤷 My theory is CA right wingers are mad about not being in charge of the state & want to make the rest of us suffer. For example, my congressman is a Dem, but the district right next door (where I normally attend protests) has a Repub rep. So you never know who'll you'll run into.
I know it’s circumstantial. Given the kind of feedback deeply republican areas have been receiving for congressional Townhall. I’m willing to believe there’s a lot more capacity to push back.
I don’t think anyone would enjoy what appears to be armed, thugs marching through their neighborhoods.
And I still think it’s important that people who did not vote for these politicians to be very loud as well. In this moment, opposition is the most important thing.

@jwildeboer It's intentional. They are all army drop outs. They yearn for the deserts. If I were the army I'd be worried about ICE impersonating the army and making it look bad. If some business put on the uniform of another business and then went out on the streets doing violence to essentially frame the other business, there would be trouble.

I’ve heard much exceptionalist talk over the years about how full-fledged fascism *couldn’t* take root in America because the President can’t deploy troops domestically.
Which ignores the longstanding and progressive militarization of police, and the development of domestic militias under DHS and now ICE.
It is precisely the same process used in Nazi Germany. Increasingly overt ops will leave these groups with increasingly violent and extreme memberships.
@jwildeboer I agree with your statement Jan. Our police in Vancouver (Canada) are similar, in my experience. At one point, the police parked a huge black tank outside their headquarters and it sent a message that we were the enemy. (Again, that was my feeling).
@ElleAdam @jwildeboer The cops in my teeeny Texas town are sooo mad at me because I stopped them from getting a swat tank. And swat gear. I literally stood in the center of city council and pointed out that the biggest crime we’d had in 20 years was when Karen’s firebird got stolen and we all knew her drunk of an exhusband was responsible. We’ve had one murder in 10 years. We are literally one of the safest places in the country. We do not need to arm Billy Joe for war, to check on the piggly wiggly carts being missing.
