When people ask, explain in detail. No matter how obvious you think your statement was. People out there may honestly not know and you giving links to context helps not only them but also all other readers of your posts.

Peter Thiel and JD Vance. Be very afraid. Gilead[1] is coming.

After a few months of use, I maybe should blog about how my Pocketbook Verse Pro Color replaced the Kindle Paperwhite with no books lost because I converted all my Amazon ebooks before the download cutoff date. But there’s not much to say. The Verse Pro Color is a wonderful device but you cannot convert your Amazon collection the way I did anymore. Le sigh.
You can take everything away from me, but not my .bashrc, .vimrc and .profile. (Cue Peaky Blinders theme)
(Warning. eMacs, zsh, Korn shell and other fundamentalists incoming in the replies ;)
When you’re a (carnivore) Dutchie like me, living in another country, you sometimes get the overwhelming desire to eat a kroket, frikandel speciaal or bitterballen. This is one of these moments. Damn :) (This is a symbol picture. There once was a place in Munich that served Dutch fast food, AKA (also Known As) Vette Hap, but they closed many years ago)
If you spot a mistake or typo in my toots, feel free to send me a DM. You can also post a public reply, but DM is nicer, as it doesn’t clutter the publicly visible thread. I promise to react fast and will reply when fixed.
And done. That's 4385 files, totalling 557GB of Techno sessions, from 2017 to today, downloaded and tagged with sufficiently good id3 tags. 211 days of listening now ahead of me ;) And I've learned a bit about how rss for podcasts with some apple extras work[1]. Worth it. The script[2] now runs once a night as cronjob to fetch the newest sets and add them to my Plex server :)

This is why I still manually check the traffic on my mailserver every day, with the help of good ole pflogsumm and various grep commands on my maillog :)
And my mailserver still isn't on any blocklist (I checked with spamhaus und mxtoolbox), so I guess the spammers are either taking a break trying to brute-force their way into it or they were successful and I stopped a planned spam wave just in time.
Found some weird successful logins from an IP address in APAC (Asia Pacific region), so I set a new password for that account. Could well be false alarm, but better safe than sorry. AFAICS (As Far As I Can See) that specific account hasn't been used to send spam (yet).
I see a huge drop in abusive traffic targeting my mailserver in the past 4 days. Where I'd normally get around 50-150 IP addresses/day trying to brute force a login by guessing username/password combinations, it is now almost 0. I wonder why that is. I will ask all my users to change their passwords, just in case.
Trump said during todays meeting with German chancellor Merz that maybe Russia and Ukraine should fight it out a bit longer before stepping in, just like you do when young kids are fighting.
A few hours later the world looks at the Musk v Trump mudslinging and thinks "maybe those two should just fight it out a bit longer before someone steps in."
Game of thrones, Temu version. Trump v Musk. Season 1 finale ends with a cliffhanger. After Musk loses his EV subsidies, Trump also threatens to take the Space-X billons away. Musk reminds Trump that he's the younger one and will outlive the Burger King.
The war in Ukraine is really, really bad and no-one should be allowed to use an autopen. The TL;DR of the Trump/Merz presser.
Very disappointed that https://subvert.fm, which wants to become the cooperatively owned and managed music place, couldn't find a single non-male candidate for their supporter board. https://quaint-deer-19e.notion.site/Board-Candidate-Info-Supporters-1fbc883cdb4d80b4b465c966194d6d04
I guess this will be in the background of today's meeting between German chancellor Merz and Trump. (gift link) https://www.nytimes.com/2025/06/05/world/europe/us-russia-nord-stream-gas-pipeline.html?unlocked_article_code=1.Mk8.VEty.OzEWz0sLwlfT&smid=url-share
I have just switched my home router to the unfiltered DNS resolver from https://www.joindns4.eu/for-public#resolver-options
Whenever I need to remind myself why nuclear power must go, I take the time to watch Chernobyl, the 2019 series, again. It doesn't hold back to show you what happens when things go wrong. This series is brutal. Honest. Haunting. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chernobyl_(miniseries)
