Jan 8, 2025, 11:32 PM@rl_dane Threads was the first to get deleted (a couple of weeks ago) and Facebook in the past week. I've put my Instagram account on hiatus, deleted the app on my phone, logged out and nuked the cookies in my browser.
If I do log into Instagram, it'll be in private/incognito mode on a desktop browser.

I had a FB account from 2008-2018, and nuked it with impunity.
Started another FB acct in late 2020 to try to talk sense into my friends about, eh, "Pumpkin Spice Mussolini."
Of course, that didn't go all that well, lol.I log into my FB account maybe once per... season. ;)
Re-created a generic IG account about a year ago just to occasionally follow some actors I liked, but I check in maybe once a month, and only in a container tab. ;)
Threads never held any appeal for me, eww.

@rl_dane My original FB exodus was back in 2019, but created a new account when a podcast that I've been a tiny part of went independent. I didn't use it much other than to follow that particular community.
I used Instagram to post photos that I take from some events and photos of the notes that take for each episode of Wait Wait that I listen to.
In both cases, the amount of ads and the extremely hard push on reels was beyond tiring.
Threads was an interesting experiment, mostly to see what kind of a mess it was. It sure was a huge mess, especially with clout chasers, spam and crappy stuff in general. It was the first account to go because I just didn't care about it.
The latest stuff with Meta was, again, enough for me to shutter FB and put my IG account on ice.

I created a secret FB account a few years later to follow some specific pages, but ended up deleting it fairly quickly because the enshittification had become so strong. I've avoided all of the other Meta properties even though my wife and two of our kids are avid Instagram users.

Most of the ham radio activity online is Facebook (although I finally am getting people in the local club to use Discord, which is at least better for my sanity), and I use Instagram DMs to communicate with a good chunk of people that I don’t want to sever ties with.

Basically, they pulled a Xitter. Fired their fact-checkers and said they wouldn't do any more fact checking, only crowdsourced fact checking like Xitter.

I've read about it. Foxtrot Bravo has never had any good fact checkers otherwise many articles which obviously have false data would not have stayed up there for years
