Perhaps I'm being silly, but [less] with scroll bars would be a nice thing to have. Not even clickable, necessarily, but just a visual indication of the size and position of the viewport vs the size of the document.

P.S., I am occasionally a very silly person. https://polymaths.social/@rl_dane/statuses/01M5QWY6H3STZMZ2A7678FP4FQ

Can no longer download some Play Store apps using the anonymous Aurora Store account.

Can no longer use my old spare gmail account without giving Google my cell number.

Can no longer sign up for a new gmail account without giving Google my cell number.

This is not normal.

This is not ok.

What the actual flaming forking fork?

I have made a survey about showing icons on your desktop and how it should behave when screen changes. I would hope as many replies as possible! You don't need to use KDE Plasma to reply to this survey! It should take around 5 to 10 minutes.

And if you want to read a bit more about the "why", here's mine and Nates blogpost:

Fairly cool YouTuber : Here's this awesome way that you can defang the horrible Instagram and Reddit apps (and many more) on Android!

Me: Or you could just not use those forking horrible "services," period. Egad. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Zero sympathy for those who insist on continuing to use hellsites like Instagram and X. Don't @ me. I don't care.

You are feeding the mother-forking Balrog, already. Just stop.

Tomorrow, Saturday, October 24, 2026, I'll be speaking at Linux Day in Modena, with a talk titled "Beyond Linux: A Journey Through the Open Source Ecosystem."

Will I talk about Linux? Of course. But I'll also talk about BSD, illumos, monocultures, and why we should never forget that there are always other paths worth exploring.

Linux proved that an alternative was possible. It would be a shame if that alternative became, in turn, a new imposition.

Because monocultures are a problem, even in the Open Source world. And because freedom isn't about everyone doing things the same way, but about being able to choose a different way.

Open Source and closed minds don't mix.

I'm starting to feel some of my own left-pad energy because #PixieReport is beset by scrapers. Blocking a segment of cloud hosting has been helpful.

I'm gaining sympathy for the folks pointing to the enclosure and pollution of the software commons who say "then, stop".

I miss daily #blogging. My September Gratitude [series] was very enjoyable to write, very life-giving. Considering how much work it was, I only had four entries that were less than 100 words (i.o.w., only four "It's 23:50, I'm exhausted, and I have to post SOMETHING" entries). (And only 7 entries that were posted after 23:30 at all ;)

What are you guys queuing up for November/#WritingMonth?

At this stage in life, that's kinda like winning the lottery. 😄

Inspired by @nina_kali_nina finding and publishing an old zine recently*; I too have dug out, fixed up, and published a zine I made in 2015.

It's about computers (sort of) and also about cats (definitely)!

It's available on Ko-fi: https://ko-fi.com/s/6c7cd23411

...if you ask nicely I'll probably just give it to you for free
