Ok, genuinely, tech journalists need to investigate why so much money is being laundered into Omarchy. A bunch of slopware from a white supremacist does not deserve $18 million when real Linux projects have gone unfunded for years. There has to be something else going on here.
@stevestreza I briefly talked to someone about it but it seems like he's directly reaching out to CEOs rather than asking companies. I think that would be a good first step for projects to seek funding.

@TheEvilSkeleton @stevestreza if you want to reach out directly to CEOs, you need to have a personal contact with them. It's not like they listen to any random guy from the street. DHH apparently has personal contacts in Silicon Valley. People from real FLOSS projects sadly don't.

he created ruby on rails in 2004, when everybody was still figuring out this 'internet' thing (and how to scale it up). for reference, wordpress came out in 2003.
if you wrote something similar today, you wouldn't be able to gain even half the traction that ruby on rails did. and the fact that it was website software that would be used by a lot of businesses (similar to wordpress), was how he could leverage the software he wrote for business connections, like eventually shopify (wanna guess what they use?). it's very sad to see how much personal connections to the investor class matter, and how little him turning fash changed (appearently the shopify owners have some similar politics, though. like attracts like).
idk, he was extremly well-known to be a toxic asshole long before he became a fascist though. i feel like there's a lesson in here somewhere to double down on collaborative, community-based development, to push back against cults of personality, and that if someone is being a toxic asshole, we need to throw them out, even if they did some important things at some point. not sure how much that would have changed, but it might have protected the ruby community from some of the damage, at least :/
@crazyeddie I believe it is slightly more complex history regarding rails. He also co-authored some books and from my perception then he decided to destroy his legacy by acting in opposition to what he wrote to books and when people start complaining turned full white nationalist narcissist. BTW that is why fork @mosscap was created.

On the other hand, they're expecting something interesting inside, so it had better be personalised somewhat, perhaps including swag.

Surprisingly, despite he is being known substantial ammounts are publicly moving to his new project. OP makes a lot of sense, would love to understand why.

@alexia @stevestreza most NPOs take a year or more to be recognized in the federal database. They likely are a state level NPO presently, the money and donations can be used to demonstrate why the need federal NPO status as they start operating.
So check state business filings

@stevestreza I do LOVE AI, but I only love it if I can run it locally, right now I run deepseek v4 flash 0731 locally on my hardware, I love it, been some months using a lot AI and I found this Omarchy interesting, but after diging into it, me as a lover into agentic environment for work I can say this distro Omarchy SUCKS and looks like a scam (the owner looks stupidly hyped about using Linux mainly, nothing he was showing on the video I saw was actually anything interesting, was just a Linux environment like any other distro has), I don't understand why are they putting money into it, I do run agentic into a sandboxed ubuntu (for compatibility) environment and I won't never ever let AI run alone into my host distro OS... I don't understand why do Omarchy even exist, if I want some help with my host OS I open opencode and I check every command to run, never let it go alone, unless it's sandboxed which I don't even care about GUI or what desktop it has, I just use the most supported and compatible environment to make it easy for my AI harness stuff. SHAME on this distro, and I'm sorry for people that hates AI but I do love it, but I do at least run it localy with my solar pannels/batteries to reduce environment disaster. :/ You can install any distro and ask AI to customize it, there is no need for Omarchy xD
Any tips for this? I'm in this situation now too. I've found certain AI tools useful, but I'd rather run open models locally on energy I know comes from sustainable sources.
Are models like DeepSeek v4 flash as effective as the ones available in Claude Code Pro/Teams?
