The minimum wage is NOT $30 an hour and the legislation which led to that was a Cuomo/DeBlasio thing a decade ago. Expanding pre-k is good i guess, but in its current incarnation is essentially just an expansion of an existing neoliberal corruption scheme. Collecting parking fines? Something new york is famous for doing? C'mon.

My beef is with the constant disinformation about him. Like a similar post in 2009 would read about Obama in six months fixing healthcare, ending the war in Iraq, and protecting abortion rights. Just cult of personality stuff completely separated from reality.

@Lana @mason @skc @lettosprey Fire Jessica Tisch, disband SRG, stop sending NYPD in to defend ICE, and start enforcing New York City's robust civil rights laws regarding anti-trans discrimination against our local healthcare providers actively abandoning trans patients and actively handing over healthcare records to the feds. This is all day one stuff he campaigned on (he did flip flop on Tisch last minute, but I'm still including it).
@Lana There are a lot of ironies resulting from the Trump administration's incompetence and the Democratic Party's weakness, mostly in how Trump has attacked the basis of the state's power.
I think Mamdani is a positive example of taking advantage of that incompetence and weakness to actually make positive reforms.
@Lana The stark comparison between him and Gov Sherrill, both presiding over similar sized populations, is extremely telling.

Some of this is false. He hasn't raised the minimum wage yet, he's still campaigning for that. He also hasn't permanently closed the deficit, just moved money around to give himself more time. Crime is down, but it's been going down from a spike in 2020.
He has been a champion for Civil Rights, anti-corruption, and corporate accountability under the law, so the other stuff is accurate and is indicative of what he's been up to.

• Are these statements true? (The minimum wage one isn't.)
• Did he do these things singlehandedly within his power as mayor, or did they require the cooperation of the city council and/or elected state government? (Maybe Batman can drive down crime all by himself, but I don't think the mayor can do that).
This kind of rhetoric seeking a political savior in one person is why we're in this political mess in the first place.
