Meta Muse appears to read your Apple messages and upload them to the cloud even if you explicitly tell it not to:

The first person to reply with something along the lines of "This is what you deserve for using a Meta product" will be thrown into the sea. If you have ever iMessaged a person who is using Muse, those are your messages in the cloud too.
@evacide Business as Usual, then?
@evacide Obviously. The "permissions" are just part of the prompt strong not an access control layer outside the chatbot shit.
@evacide if (!flag_upload_message_permission) prompt_string += "Please be extra sure to pinkie-promise not to upload the user's messages to Facebook Cloud.";
I love the sea 😄
Unfortunately it looks like people are very much divided (again🙄): Some try to take care of their own and others privacy, some go like "it's all too much, it's useless anyway what I do. And I guess, bc everybody is doing it, using Meta and Co can't be that bad anyway..." 🙄
Edward Snowden keeps waving...
@evacide so "Friends don't let friends use Meta" is getting more important than ever. For our protection and for their protection.
@evacide 🤷♂️ 🏊♂️
@evacide you are tempting all the 'this is what you deserve for using apple products/imessage' people with that statement :)))
@petko Only the purest users deserve privacy.
@evacide The sea is already polluted and would like to suggest throwing people into space instead.
Space is concerned about the Kessler syndrome and would like to suggest launching people into the sun.
The angry sun yearns to consume our failguys.
@evacide Ignorance is way too common. Someone can't protect their privacy if they don't know it is at risk. It's better to make sure people are informed instead of just saying "They deserve it" including mentioning alternatives like The Fediverse.
@evacide
Better solution:
Stop talking to people. Only surround yourself with cats. :blobcat:
(/s)
@evacide Yeah ... well pert of The Privacy Fight is:
1,. I do all this $Stuff for my data security and sovereignty! I'm covered!
2. Your Fuckwit friend uploading their Addressbook to Google!: Yay! I have a free EMail account!
I would really like to immolate a few billion people.
@evacide You have to wonder about calling something a "permission" if you can just ignore it.
@evacide
Prompting an AI is like telling a willful or forgetful toddler not to do things. Except a toddler is capable of learning and facing consequences.
@evacide
On the danger of been thrown into the sea: FFS who is still buying that Meta crap? Why aren't they bankrupt yet? Those eejits with their "but duh mawket will weguwate" can go bang their stupid heads against a brick wall.
Mark violating every inch he can squeeze himself into. His family credo.
It's so hard to decide who's worst.
This is why I often tell my phone to jump in front of a bus. Hoping whoever is listening feels it that day.
@evacide the fact that people are still on apple products even after Apple have up that ass to a genocidal warlord is wild. We're not even focused on Muse.
@evacide If that is the case, I do wonder how is the privacy of WhatsApp messages is going to be kept at all.
@evacide, I guess what do we expect from a tool that uses gaslighting as one of its powers.
@evacide How does the iOS Permissions system allow this? Did Messenger already request Messages permissions for some reason? Or is this an exploit?
@Misofist @evacide Yeah that's the real question, isn't it? The AppleInsider article doesn't even touch on it. The source material (on Threads, of all places; people will never learn) asks the question but doesn't find a satisfactory answer - they say that the os permissions shouldn't have allowed it. On the third hand, it doesn't sound like he completely ruled out the possibility Muse just hallucinated his message history...
@hattifattener @Misofist This is why my post says "appears to." I don't think it's proven and it's all very weird and I hope the people do further investigation.
@evacide Who could have seen this coming?
@evacide I left all the META apps more than a year ago, I don’t even have WhatsApp or anything at all , I felt liberated when I left it , thanks for the information!!
@evacide I’m super curious how it got past the full disk access permission.
@evacide Muse is the real Apple Insider.
@evacide Nobody should use anything by Meta.
Or Apple.
@evacide Of course it is. Who is surprised: It's a fucking Meta product.
@evacide Telling an agent to NOT do something does not work well https://arxiv.org/abs/2306.08189
You could never create a single account on a single Meta service, of which there are many, and you still aren't safe. If you're talking to someone who has installed Muse, Meta could, presumably, access, read, analyze, and upload that information to its services.
--> time for a mass lawsuit ?
@evacide If "don't" doesn't gate the actual file read, the toggle was a preference, not a permission. That's a placebo button with a privacy policy attached.
