we eat a lot of pumpkin-like squashes, but their seeds aren't any good roasted, and our samhain pumpkin this year wasn't edible.

but husband went into town yesterday and to the bio shop, and they had an edible halloween-type pumpkin!

so now we can have pumpkin seeds and cakes and i'm really very excited about that :abunhdhappyhop: :Blobhaj_Pumpkin:

ooh that looks interesting, ty! i wonder if/how we could fill it to make it nice, given my limited options. i'll send husband the link and see what he thinks ...

i am outlandishly excited about the seeds.

School is good, but the peopling is exhausting…..

How are laen things? Is your place warm enough? How are the kittenz?

silly cats are the best things :bunhdlurkaww: :blobbear_heart:

oh gods yes the peopling :blobcatscared:
will it be much more when elodie is there?

i hope the drive goes ok ... is there plenty of time to do it?

laenthings are a bit tricky, but i feel relatively chipper for some reason? i'm sure i'll be in tears tomorrow 😂
not warm here atm, but we're considering heating (for kitten if nothing else, as he Does Not Cope with cold, even with all the floof), so that should help. i'm all bundled up! :bunhdcomfyhappy:

@moonrabbit peopling levels should be fairly constant at least. Plus will be sunnier and warmer than DE (which is pretty bleak in winter)

Planned for two days of travel

Main thing is wife will get a break, and both get some headspace to work on the shit that there’s never time to focus on.

And will see if it’s somewhere that feels like home

@purplepadma so much same. we have raw ones in our breakfasts every day, but they're nothing like freshly roasted fresh ones!

I wish my mother liked pumpkin. I got a "pie pumpkin" from the market but it's just going to be decorative. I might be able to salvage the seeds from it at least. (Don't worry it's a tiny one, barely enough pumpkin for 1 pie.)

@moonrabbit Are you sure about those other seeds? I roast seeds from butternut, acorn, and even delicata squashes and they're very nice. I coat them with melted butter and they take less cooking time but they can be very yummy. Fresh pumpkin is amazing though, and their seeds are a real treat.

    @lydialurch
hmmm, now i'm not! i haven't tried butternut, but when i tried uchiki kuri (the pumpkinesque we most often have), it did not go well: the seeds are very thick ...

i'll (ask husband to) have a go with butternut next time we have one. (we use oil as i can't have butter, but it works v well with pumpkin-pumpkins)

    tyvm!

@Star12Mt hello! and maybe! i haven't had it for years and we can't find it gf here (always cross-contaminated). BUT i've seen that the spanish place where we get out gf dried beans has some, so i'll include it in our next order. and see if i can still eat it, or remember that i stopped eating it for another reason ... 😂

@moonrabbit When I couldn't eat much of anything else the thing that made me feel better was millet and squash or pumpkin congee.
It is just 6 cups of water, one cup of cubed pumpkin squash and 3/4 cup of millet. Parboil The squash for six minutes and then add the millet. Cover and let simmer for 40 minutes string every 10 minutes. Of course you can add more water to make it dinner and stir more to break it down more. We plan on making it soon.
