@normjess @nakal @joachim What this hype cycle has taught me is that there's enough people that just don't like thinking, and will gladly let someone, or something else do it for them.
This realisation is pretty scary tbh.

what I've learned is its not everyone
most have a revolutionary impulse, its just fed by Netflix or whatever
and stupidity is notoriously uncontrollable
just do your best to wake people up
and if that fails, find a community who is awake

I suspect it will be similar to Genocide, where in a few decades everyone will claim to have been against it, once all the stakes are removed
we are woke enough to notice what's right when things are going on

@bms conversely (removed others so as not to jump into mentions of strangers): there's a limited amount of mental bandwidth to devote to thinking about things as a group; offloading/delegating items so that one does not have think about them anymore, and can preserve that mental capacity for other preferred/important items, is something that long predates AI.
e.g., one of the reasons I pay my kids a weekly salary to do certain chores is not because I don't want to do the work, it's because I don't want to have to think about it.

in my youth I always thought it was a bad argument to say people need to learn things themselves before they properly can wield the power and standing on shoulders of giants is actually very dangerous stuff
but now we're living it
