Aug 3, 2026, 1:35 PMfor everyone who's relatively close to the eclipse totality path i would suggest trying to go if you can at all, even if it's inconvenient, because it is honestly a life-changing experience to see a total eclipse of the sun while it's a funny anecdote to see even a 98% eclipse.

Aug 3, 2026, 1:39 PMi shot this picture during the Apr 8, 2024 eclipse in north america. the world around us changed, it started being twilight everywhere and then suddenly the sky looked... abnormal. the temperature went down probably 9 or 10 degrees celsius, the light became weird and i could feel my hair rising. birds got quiet. and then the sun came out from behind the moon and i felt such a huge rush in my heart
it's an experience ill never forget

Aug 3, 2026, 1:41 PM@nileane jcomprends et jui désolée pour toi. tbh je pensais a ma collègue de taff qui vit vers carcassonne et qui m'a dit qu'elle "sortirait 10 minutes pour regarder avec son gosse de 11 ans qui est fan d'astronomie" et j'étais la genre s'il te plait prends ta caisse et fais les 45 minutes de route pour aller voir la totalité parce que ça peut littéralement changer la vie de ton enfant en fait
mais elle était la genre naaaan ça va on a 97% ça va être cool déjà

@wxcafe @nileane effectivement 45‘ la ca vaut la peine. Apres, elle est quand meme très basse sur l’horizon, il faut aussi choisir son point d’observation, pas gagné en partant au bol 2h avant. Et je crains que cela n‘amenuise l‘effet. Apres j‘ai vu celle de 1999 dans un environnement assez calme et plus ca va moins je supporte la foule.

Weather in Iceland could be completely overcast, sadly. And the roads are gonna be very crowded. But we're gonna get a good look of Iceland either way :)

@wxcafe Good luck! 🍀 I travelled to Oregon in August 2017 and experienced a mesmerizing, unforgettable eclipse. Got unlucky with the weather in April 2024 in Texas. Not near totality this time 🤷🏻♂️ May you have clear skies!

@wxcafe My wife and I packed up at the last moment, found one plane to get there from Moscow, and there were no return tickets at all. So we had to return by train. The forecast was 50/50. But in the end, everything was fine.
Later, one of my friends (she’s astronomer) from Kiev flew to Shanghai to watch the eclipse. And it was full cloud cover there. She spent a lot of money and it's such a disappointment!

@wxcafe From the info I've found, the eclipse will only be visible on the following landmasses: the northern Siberian coast, eastern Greenland, southwestern Iceland, and the Pyrenees.
I did get a chance to see the total eclipse in 2017, at my friend’s house in South Carolina, USA. It was amazing!

@wxcafe strong agree with this, i saw the 2024 total eclipse (after being inspired by all the reports in 2017 and feeling disappointed i didn’t work harder to see the totality).
that said, if all you can see is the partial, my advice is don’t bother trying to view the actual eclipse or whatever. best way to experience a partial is to go for a walk in a wooded area, and experience the surreality of the leaves forming pinhole lenses and projecting millions of tiny crescents everywhere. so weird.
