Meta has launched a new AI image generator that allows anyone to create AI images with your Instagram photos. And if you have a public Instagram account, Meta automatically opted you in.
Here’s how to opt out: https://wapo.st/4ymzOnN

@newsguyusa Maybe it's time for a revival of analog comms.
@newsguyusa oh man, i wish there was a way to turn that off without installing the app. i just tried via the web and that option isnt available
@newsguyusa update, they yanked the feature entirely

@Viss "Missed the mark" probably means "lawsuits ahead". @newsguyusa
@newsguyusa Meta has just withdrawn this feature due to the outcry regarding it.
@lauren @newsguyusa It'll be back, these shady features _always_ come back once the heat dies down.
@newsguyusa
Meta #JOMO
FICK #Meta I don't need them in my life at all...
@newsguyusa
Is that even legal? Don’t they (Meta) operate a legal compliance dept? I’m seeing lawyers at 20 paces in their future… 😹
@newsguyusa One of the reasons I left facebook years ago is they regularly just reset you setting to whatever they felt like. Opt out of something? They would reset it to whatever they felt like. Got where I was checking settings once a week. It is beyond me why anyone puts up with facebook.
Yes. I quit Facebook 15 years ago because they kept changing things and I could sense the disrespect in their design decisions.
It took me 3 evenings to delete every damned comment, like. post, and photo I ever added. (OCD much? Why, yes!) I know they'll still have that content, but they cannot use it to populate other people's timeline with memory-lane nostalgia. ("Hey, remember when Yo posted this?")
@newsguyusa
The answer is simple: ditch Instagram.
Meta es parte de la administración Trump. La mejor opción es no usar nada de Meta, sin duda @newsguyusa
Yeah ... just informed my 30 something granddaughter ... she didn't know they could do stuff like that ... thought I was quoting a conspiracy ... sigh!
@newsguyusa YOU CAN OPT-OUT BY NOT HAVING AN INSTAGRAM ACCOUNT. Just saying.
@newsguyusa
Oh the Irony that the Washington Post is telling you that!
@newsguyusa
Good news is that they pulled it.
Bad news is that during its run, META probably sucked all of the existing images that were in Instagram and fed them to their LLM with the excuse that there were people who hadn't turned their theft feature off, and that of course for them means that they agreed to have all of their shit stolen.
@newsguyusa It's very easy: Delete your account. Oh, relief - they removed that function again after critisism.
There's an easier option to opt out: delete Instagram and use Pixelfed.
@newsguyusa it looks like this setting is NOT available in the web UI. You may have to install the app to change it. 😒
@wcbdata @newsguyusa it’s not available because Meta cancelled this on Friday.
@jerome @newsguyusa Just saw that too - thanks!
