    if your monday is too much of the wrong sort of busy, here's a different kind to offer a wee respite.

    (sound on/up for bird noises and buzzing)

    take care, good hoomans.

    a huumingbird hawk moth — who looks rather a lot like a tiny, grey and black hummingbird with grey and orange wings — is hovering around a lot of lavender. there's also a wasp quietly crawling over one of the flowers. the hawk moth uses its long, black proboscis to take what it needs from each flower and then buzzes busily to the next and then the next. you can't hear it so well in this video, but their buzzing is really very loud!

    @MiaMarkTwo there were *so many* of them on there (yesterday). the first video i took was too confusing bc there were four of them just zooming in and out! i think everyone's very hungry atm :bunhdsad: so i'm glad that lavender is huge. it's actually totally flopped apart at the centre for some reason — just massive woody trunk bits almost growing along the ground — but it seems quite happy ...

    how's you this mondayday? :bunhdheart:

    @moonrabbit Oooh, be careful! My one out the front was like that until it ... wasn't 😔 I still don't know why.

    Not too bad. Overdid it a bit with the hand this morning but other than that I've been fairly productive by my standards 😂

    How's things there? Not Too Hot I hope ❤️

    @MiaMarkTwo
    i got quite worried when it did it, but i've no idea ... right ok i've just done some research. sigh. looks like i didn't prune it hard enough in previous years and this is what happens because they're not very long lived and it's beyond hope. everything says to "replace it" but um it's still alive, so i'll just take a cutting now and let it do its thing till it doesn't want to anymore. sigh. ofc finding anything about gardening online now is nearly impossible (so much "content" :blobcatscared:) but yeah apparently you have to keep them v tidy or they do that. and then they won't grow back from old wood. bah.

    hooray for productive! (:Blobhaj_Hug: for the hand) (i messed mine up yesterday with sewing, ugh)
    i hope you're taking it easy now?

    not too hot yet, no. although fan no.2 has just gone on. i'm a mess (woo!) so amn't (word? new word) doing much, but i do want to get the boat painted to waterproof it, if i can.

    there's cake and fig biscuit to eat though, so i might not have time :BlobCat_Giggle:

    rest that hand! :Blobhaj_Heart:

    @moonrabbit Oh, well - that'd be it then. I thought they just did their thing but it lasted around 3 years and then ... nowt. Ho hum, I've got some more now :moomin_yay:

    Yeah, I hate all that "give up and chuck it away" business. Just leave it to die quietly if that's what it's going to do. Grrr.

    I've just been chainsawing a bit actually 😂 Euch, sewing, poor hand 🫂 I'm putting that off as long as possible.

    You rest that hand! (but not from eating cake, obvs) 😁 🧁

    @MiaMarkTwo 5–10, apparently, although that can be extended with timely pruning. i had no idea: i thought they just carried on. lesson learned! but yeah it should be allowed to just ... be a lavender really, not dug up while it's still lavendering 😠
    plus all the creatures around here seem to need that one very much.

    chainsawing, my goodness! (not the same as chainsawing my goodness :blobcatscared:)
    did you See To the ferns? 🌿
    strict rest and cake for you now! :Blobhaj_Hug:

    this was recreational sewing, so i've really no excuse *tries not to think of pile of mending*. it has seriously put me off doing any more though *curses at pile of mending*. but yes hand is now being rested; thankfully i can shovel cake in with the other one :BlobCat_Giggle: (<– hand to mouth because of cake shovel)

    @moonrabbit Yep, I hate having to dig things up when they're still busy doing their thing. I almost cried having to saw the roots of the magnolia 🥺

    The ferns will be Seen To tomorrow. As you can see 👇 they *really* need it. That's just about a quarter of them 😩

    If there's anything one needs ambidexterity for, it's shoveling cake :moomin_yes: 🍰

    My pile of mending has been there about six months now, it holds no power to intimidate me 🤣

    Enjoy your treats ❤️

    and you're welcome, gentle friend. how are you and your world? :Blobhaj_Heart_Rainbow: :Blobhaj_Hug:

    @moonrabbit I was in another country and didn't know the local fauna, so I thought maybe a hummingbird, but even smaller and so … proboscisy. I didn't figure it out for a few years. A beautiful mystery.

    Monday is happening but cake endures. The larger cat has a checkup at the vet today. I hope he (the cat) has lost a bit of weight. He is very food motivated, but shares the house with a very timid kitty and so he eats all the food if we don't watch.

    Sending cool breezes. :ablobcatheart:

    @troublewithwords
    very good luck to the larger cat. and i hope the journey is tolerable for you both. perhaps cake will be in order although alas, only for one of you (you).

    sending tea to go with the cake 🫖🌿 (and cool breezes) :Blobhaj_Hug:

    @moonrabbit One of my favorite insects :blobmiou:. For years, I thought it was a colibri (i.e. a bird). Silly me.

    Thank you for sharing :)
