👀 Reuters: Exclusive: FEMA staff confused after head said he was unaware of US hurricane season, sources say
Reuters:
"WASHINGTON, June 2 (Reuters) - Staff of the Federal Emergency Management Agency were left baffled on Monday after the head of the U.S. disaster agency said during a briefing that he had not been aware the country has a hurricane season, according to four sources familiar with the situation."
🤯
@ai6yr "Brownie" the Arabian Horse Show judge who served during Katrina is looking qualified compared to that JA
@cookiesinheaven @ai6yr Heck of a job!
@ai6yr JFC
@cookiesinheaven "I may be totally unqualified to run this agency, but by gosh, I'll make it WORSE"
@ai6yr Trump will declare war on the Cape Verde Islands, since they are "the source" of so many hurricanes. 😜
@ai6yr :yikes:
He must not have a TV.
@ai6yr
Wtf?
@ai6yr “Look man, I just thought they sorta happened”
@ai6yr 🤦🏽
@ai6yr Of course this person has zero experience in emergency management.
I see that he served as a combat Marine in "The Long War", apparently a new government euphemism for the War on Terror. His entire government experience is limited to 4 months at DHS this year. hehttps://www.fema.gov/about/organization/david-richardson#:~:text=Office%20of%20the%20Administrator,-Senior%20Official%20Performing&text=and%20nuclear%20threats.-,Mr.,and%20Marine%20Corps%20Martial%20Arts.
@Barbramon1 @ai6yr literally first time i've heard it called "the Long War". If nothing else this admin shows over and over anyone burnishing their resume or punching up a cover letter can feel free to just make shit up.
Guys from suburban Detroit, his experience with natural disasters is that it got cold in the winter.
@ai6yr they have weaponized stupidity and they are winning
@akamran Ouch, and yes.
That's a Muppet Newsflash if ever I heard one.
@dashdsrdash @ai6yr For real.
These people are so stupid.
@ai6yr to be fair, just like wildfires, it's not gonna be a season for much longer.
:(
@Paperposts Err......
The implication is a season ends, annually.
Once atlantic surface temps no longer cool enough due weakening currents, there may be a point where tropical cyclones form year-round with near-equal frequency. Therefore, not seasonal.
@ai6yr 'only the best people' (slams face with keyboard repeatedly)
i figure it was autocorrect... should have been "only the beastly people"
@ai6yr @Crystal_Fish_Caves Where’s Brownie when you need him
@ai6yr I can only imagine how demoralizing it must be to work there right now
@wesley @ai6yr It's awful, I work for my state but in direct contact with our Regional staff through FEMA. The tactics from DHS, DOGE, and FEMA leadership are psychological abuse, plain and simple. They are absolutely harming these people who sacrifice so much to show up for us in our times of need.
For shame, if the word had any meaning these days...
Posting what I think everyone here already knows, but for anyone reading along. It feels like psychological abuse because that is quite literally what it is designed to be.
The admin, following the plans of Project 2025, _intends_ to traumatize the federal workforce. The admin _wants_, and has said they want, to harm and hurt the workforce of the federal government. Partly it is to change potus into king.
@ai6yr I saw this, sadly not incredible but somehow I am still incredulous. 🥹
@ai6yr This doesn't surprise me.
@ai6yr what
😳
I live in the part of the US that doesn't have hurricanes. I've never known anyone who lived in an area with hurricanes. I am not a weather buff. I haven't watched tv news since the 90s. I don't really ever think about hurricanes
But I know we have a hurricane season
I just cannot imagine the level of restricted life that person must have lived
But maybe I'm looking at this the wrong way
Maybe it's not about not knowing
Maybe it's about brain fog, not having ACCESS to the stuff that we know
@ai6yr How can there be no changes to disaster response plans when half the people who used to implement those plans have been fired?
@ai6yr seems like I recall the FEMA head was put in to kill the agency. One big storm with no response is unfortunately what it will probably take to turn some of this crap around 🙁
I have lived through poor response storms and really don't want to go there again.
@ai6yr
Somebody should quickly whisper in his ear that the US also has a tornado season.
And that's only 1 of the alarming statements in that short article.
@ai6yr “Dominic Raab has come under fire for saying he "hadn't quite understood" how reliant UK trade in goods is on the Dover-Calais crossing.”
It’s all the same kind of idiots voted into power everywhere to destroy civilization.
@chris Ouch
@ai6yr Pretty sure one or two of the hurricanes this year will do their best to remind this doofus of the season.
@ai6yr well, I hope they are wrong about this being a bad hurricane season, when it wipes out one of the red states, I think a lot of the voters may have to rethink their vote last November. Of course they won’t see it coming either because you know who also decimated national weather service and NOAA along with FEMA.
@ai6yr On the one hand, WTF?!? On the other… yeah, that’s really not that surprising… these people are idiots from A to Z
@ai6yr Same situation:
"The newly sworn-in head of the Social Security Administration told agency staff this week that when he was first offered the job in the Trump administration, he wasn't familiar with the position and had to look it up online."
https://abcnews.go.com/US/new-head-social-security-hired-wall-street-tells/story?id=122075152
@ai6yr
No-o-o-o-o!!! ;-)
trAmpism at work...
@ai6yr
do you expect the hand crank emergency radios will be of much use in the near-term?
* not sure if NOAA broadcasts are going the way of the analog TV channels on the forty million "Red Cross" radios of the early 2000s
@HoustonDog Useful for now, but I do worry about the NOAA channels going away if their funding is cut.
@ai6yr Another highly qualified appointee in the job. Yeah, right!
@ai6yr Couple this with Richardson’s ‘all hands’ speech: “All Delegations of Authority are suspended effective immediately.”
As of now, this means Richardson alone will decide every action taken in FEMA’s name. We cannot overstate how disruptive this will be. He provided no timeline for lifting the suspension, stating only that it could be “an hour, a day, or more—until I get my arms around it.” Read the whole demoralizing thing (sorry, it’s on substack) https://substack.com/inbox/post/163252923
@ai6yr Check this out from the article: “Launch general FEMA 2025 preparedness efforts (he noted that hurricane season is upon us—something everyone in FEMA is already acutely aware of)” which was written May 9th. So is Richardson feigning ignorance about hurricane season, or trying to cover his butt when things go wrong?
@joycebell @ai6yr This man's speech could have been a sentence: ~"I'm a makeweight blowhard in search of scapegoats for my upcoming failures, and, er, that's it."~
