    To spell it out a bit more for those who need it: the AI bros don't *need* Codeberg. They are getting so angry just because someone is daring to tell them "no". Because someone is daring to dissent in a way that matters in some way, even if it's a small way.

    Because they are straying from the religion, and going against its dogma that "the AI future" is above questioning. Because they are feeling threatened by it, because it calls into question their own beliefs and whether they may have been wrong about them.

    @joepie91 They have no appreciation of the fact what they are doing is creating an AI version of mad cow disease for their beloved AI models by trying to slopify all open source projects. Their models rely on clean training data to 'improve' and their slop evangelism has polluted most of the major pools they were stealing that from, but they still want to pollute the smaller pools because they can't handle people not giving in to their demands.

    @joepie91 yes, exactly this. when an organization bans bicycles being inside a building, meaning everyone shifts away from riding them to work, we seem to accept that implicit political policy of the organization as normal.

    codeberg is exactly right to define their work boundaries as they see fit under the law. the complaints are all so hyper political. I haven't seen a single good argument made.

    these people self-identifying as being opposed to an organization having basic rights, because they disagree with a decision, are basically arguing from a position of extreme privilege. underpaying for AI as someone would underpay for labor makes them stand up and shout that no diversity in a market is allowed, because they believe only the few privileged (themselves) should decide.

    @flyingpenguin @joepie91 I've seen aggressive bro movements come and go, and I'm convinced that a lot of it is just about "winning".
    Once a lot of these guys think they can see where the tide is going, they follow, hurling abuse at the other team, righteous and self justified.

    @joepie91 @aparrish Musk didn’t need Twitter to make his epic-meme forum and future “everything app”: he bought it to take it away from the “woke left”. Trump didn’t need the Kennedy Center either, but its existence spited him. Putin doesn’t need Ukraine, but cannot abide a thriving linguistically similar democracy next door showing his kakistocracy up and demonstrating that there is an alternative. The outcry over Codeberg existing in defiance is the same dynamic.

    @joepie91 I felt the same way about bandcamp. It’s not a platform that they’d even seem to be interested in. It’s not designed in a way that works with their scam like the streaming services (it’s usually superfans of indie artists using it). Just the thought that there’s somewhere they can’t go intensely bothers them.

    @joepie91 Disagreement is uncomfortable, and there are few things more dangerous than a person with the power to make their discomfort someone else's problem and without the emotional maturity to understand why they shouldn't

    @joepie91 I'm reminded of the plot in A Bugs Life, where the grasshopper bullies cannot tolerate any resistance, no matter how small, as it encourages others and will eventually lead to their loss of power / downfall.
