If you want insight into my weird brain, here are nine films that had a huge influence on me, in order of when I watched them (ish).

@ElizabethLee great Halloween movie collection, too !
@loewe absolutely. Although Flesh for Frankenstein is definitely an acquired taste 😆
@ElizabethLee All horror?
@schamspeare Labyrinth and The Company of Wolves are dark fantasy.
@ElizabethLee Pretty close, though. Definitely have to do mine now. That's probably the next hour shot.
@ElizabethLee Labyrinth is SO cool! Saw it recently with my son … just love it.
@trendskater I was obsessed with it as a kid and I still love the soundtrack. I might or might not have been madly in love with the Goblin king for a long time.
@ElizabethLee Wow, cool! Did you draw that? And I see a bodhran … I have one from Ireland, too.
@trendskater a friend drew it for me...I have zero artistic talent 🤪
My sister-in-law brought the bodrhan back for me. The Celtic knot on the right I got from a Welsh slate mine and the one on the left is a Mayan calendar I bought in Belize 🤓
@ElizabethLee Nice. Have you been in Wales and visited Europe?
@trendskater I've only been to the UK. I never got a chance to go to mainland Europe. But I've been to several central American countries and a bunch of islands in the Caribbean.
@ElizabethLee Mine in chronological order
@telred17 I still remember watching NOTLD with my mom and being utterly scandalized that there were naked zombies 😆
@ElizabethLee The classic early horrors always seemed to have a message, not just pure entertainment. They stay in the memory much longer than all the sequels, remakes and rehashes
@telred17 I know everyone likes to say that but George Romero repeatedly said over the decades that he just wanted to make a movie. I do think the film maker's beliefs and personality will always show through, which is why we got a black man as the lead when others would've just cast a mediocre white guy.
@ElizabethLee I think Romero was just being modest. The Crazies is another where the original was much better than the remake. Anyway must go, Celebrity Traitors is on!
@telred17 I keep forgetting to watch the latest series.
@ElizabethLee Oh, great list! I wanted to rewatch In the Company of Wolves this month, too. Thanks for the reminder.
@nevar23 it's soooooo good. I thought it was made specifically for me as a teen.
@ElizabethLee I’ve seen only one of those. (Labyrinth.) I feel like I’ve failed at something! Which one should I watch next?
@OpinionatedGeek oh, holy cow. Ummm... I'm guessing you don't like horror movies? The Haunting is a stone cold classic. Old school Hollywood with creeping dread. Based on the Shirley Jackson book.
@ElizabethLee I’m fine with horror movies, honest! Apparently I just haven’t… seen the good ones? I’ve added The Haunting to my list, thanks!
@OpinionatedGeek what horror movies have you seen and liked? That will help me figure out what to suggest.
@ElizabethLee Hmm. From this Top 10 list (https://editorial.rottentomatoes.com/article/the-10-scariest-horror-movies-ever/) I liked The Exorcist, The Shining, and The Ring. But that may not be a good list. In titles-not-starting-with-The, I liked Scream, Get Out, and 28 Days Later. I didn’t like Backrooms, Weapons, or Sinners. But honestly I was just interested in watching one you liked, for a change from one I’d pick.
@OpinionatedGeek hrm. If you're wanting something more modern that's also shot & acted really well, I'd say Hellraiser. But The Haunting is definitely a foundational movie, if you don't mind black & white classics.
@OpinionatedGeek wait, did you not like Sinners because you're Irish? I don't think I've talked to any Irish people about that 😅
@ElizabethLee Heh, no, it wasn’t that. I just thought it felt smug and pretentious, and not a super plot.
@OpinionatedGeek I think there are probably a lot of things in it that maybe aren't as recognizable to people outside the US, especially related to music and the Jim Crow south.
@ElizabethLee Could be. The Banshees of Inisherin probably suffers similarly, but for Ireland.
@OpinionatedGeek yeah, I run into that a lot of with foreign horror movies. I know I'm probably missing nuance but I have no clue what it is.
@ElizabethLee Black & white classics are fine by me! (I did make a point of watching every movie referenced in RHPS’ Science Fiction, Double Feature, and it turned out I’d only missed a few. And Night Of The Demon is a cracker of a movie so I’m glad I filled in those few blanks.)
