I love these silent, visual echoes. These two images have a lot in common; the cloudy blue skies, the yellow radiance on the landscape and the track disappearing round a corner.

They are vastly different in atmosphere and mood. They can be interpreted in different ways. Both can be seen as joyous or with a tinge of sadness. What we think we know of them affects the echo of the image. For what is really going on read the ALT on both.

The Low afternoon sun has created dramatic, elongated silhouettes of me and Brodie. That is the main reason I took the photograph. A single track tarmac road bordered by grassy, heather-covered slopes typical of rural highways here on the Isle of Skye is turning up and away. There is a dynamic patch of bright blue sky breaking through dramatic white and dark grey clouds. The sun has put a yellow glow on the land. It was a joyous moment when the shadows aligned exactly with road’s edge. We had a great, happy walk.
'Wheatfield with Crows' (July 1890) It is in the Van Gogh Museum, Amsterdam Painted on canvas during the final weeks of Van Gogh's life in Auvers-sur-Oise. It depicts a stormy, dark blue sky over a gold en-yellow wheat field with a converging path and black crows. Often mistakenly cited as his final work, though he painted a few pieces afterward. In fact, it is commonly stated that this was Van Gogh's final painting. This association was popularised by Vincente Minnelli’s 1956 biopic 'Lust for Life', which depicts Van Gogh painting it immediately before shooting himself. So it may not be quite as full of doom and gloom as we think it is.
