Yesterday was sad.
At least, my digital heart floats.

Oh, for fuck's sake.

Dus.

Ik zeg tegen Konijn:
"Ga maar even trivianten."

Wat bedoel ik daarmee?

Oh look, AI filed a murder tip!

"The Philadelphia Police Department revealed Anthropic’s artificial intelligence model submitted a false homicide tip to authorities, an incident disclosed separately by the tech company.

The false submission was made in July through PhillyUnsolvedMurders.com, a public website where people can share information about unsolved killings.

It is the first known instance in which a rogue AI appeared to communicate a false tip to authorities, despite instructions not to create accounts or submit anything destructive."

I don't hate technology, i just hate generative AI.

I want hi-tech transportation so we can move people and things efficiently. I want hi-tech water and power systems that are safe and reliable. I want hi-tech medical equipment for people and animals. and I want messy, imperfect, weird, human art

Dear Men

Say a 20yr old woman is walking on her own in town, clearly drunk or disoriented. It's a Friday, it's late. Let's say her name is Jane.

What do you think women would prefer a man should do if he encounters Jane?

Radio Skye told me as I was driving home that we have had only 18 rain free days this year.

Reflecting on that I realised that it doesn’t feel like that. There have been days, like today when it has rained all day but more often than not the rain comes for periods; outbreaks of squally showers and gentle showers prevail and often it only rains at night.

I stopped after a quick downpour in the gloom to take this shot and realised brightness is never far away.

I have recently had a glimpse of the other side of this. One of my other colleagues is highly dependant on Claude for everything, and has been working with a couple of contract programmers on creating some new telescope automation software for a couple of their projects. I got asked to help a bit on the hardware side and came away low key horrified.

While the systems they had created mostly worked most of the time it was apparent that none of them had any idea how it worked and could not do anything new with it without getting Claude to do it for them. At one point I asked what I thought was a trivial question, "how do I see the serial numbers of the currently connected hardware?" and the answer was "I'll ask Claude." What followed was 10 minutes of the chatbot trying random stupid things with a running commentary of fake post-hoc justifications masquerading as a thought process until it by chance stumbled upon something that seemed to work and some numbers came out. I pointed out that a quicker check was needed, so Claude was prompted again and eventually spat out a shell script that appeared to do the same thing.

This brute force automated trial and error approach to producing software had produced some superficially impressive results in a short period of time, but the whole thing seemed incredible fragile, utterly dependant on continued unfettered access to Claude in perpetuity and completely unmaintainable otherwise.

I remain convinced that If you generate code by throwing-shit-at-the-wall-and-seeing-what-sticks at scale then the end result will inevitably be a big mess.

Neanderthal wooden tools from Spain found preserved in stone

Dissolved rock precipitated around the tools, which then decayed.

2012.

B "Ja. Jij niet?"
A "Nee, ik vind de bus wel leuk."
B "Ik niet".
A "Ergeren en irriteren is irritant."

Dát is Nederlands." zegt A behulpzaam.
B "Ja..."

A "We rijden over de snelweg. Jij?"
B "Nee."
A "Hoe vind jij dat?"

"Nee." zegt A kortjes.
"Ben je voor het eten thuis? Ja? Oké doei." sluit B moederlijk af.

A "Ja dat zou mijn moeder echt zeggen."
B "Wat?

A "Ik houd van afwisseling."

A "Aletta Jacobslaan."
B "Waar zie jij Aletta staan?"

Echt raar.

I blocked a certain white woman in 2024 because she was one of those anti-voting geniuses who helped cause this shitshow. But I'd still hear about her from people frustrated with her bullcrap. Apparently after she heard that Trump wanted to take away birth control, ALL OF A SUDDEN voting mattered. Nobody else's rights mattered, but hers sure did!

So if you know anybody who somehow still needs a prod...

Taal kan soms zo mooi zijn .

Dad joke.

Last night I woke up a few times,'hearing' Billy Ocean singing 'Red Light'.

No idea why.
I really have NO idea.

But that wasn't all.
The song was there when I got up, and even under the shower. Strange.

So, I am going to look it up and play it.
So strange, it's not a song I think of very often, if at all 🤔
