Alerta! Alerta!heiglandreas@phpc.socialOct 15, 2026, 3:45 PM@SRAZKVT So they kind of found a new word for germans?
Oct 15, 2026, 8:29 PM@heiglandreas @SRAZKVT In Germany, we call this kind of person "Diesel-Dieter". Surprisingly, not all Germans are Diesel-Dieters. Just all the ones in power.
johnejohne@denvr.socialOct 15, 2026, 4:07 PM@SRAZKVT “Ok, vroomer” sounds like a perfect retort to any car-brained person opposing bike lanes, sidewalks, public transit, etc.

☠️Captain Arcee☠️captainarcee@retrochat.onlineOct 15, 2026, 4:16 PM@SRAZKVT if Top Gear was still around, I could just see it now. Clarkson is talking to Hammond and May about this newfangled term "vroomers" and Hammond is very pleased to be called a vroomer 😂
The Penguin of Eviletchedpixels@mastodon.socialOct 15, 2026, 4:37 PM@SRAZKVT Nice although for many I think that "petrosexual" is closer to the mark.
Oct 15, 2026, 6:02 PM@etchedpixels @SRAZKVT Ignoring that the petro prefix refers to rocks.
ClickyMcTickerClickyMcTicker@hachyderm.ioOct 15, 2026, 6:26 PM@mansr @etchedpixels @SRAZKVT Ignoring that the petro prefix refers to petroleum.

@ClickyMcTicker @etchedpixels @SRAZKVT Or rock oil for those who don't speak Latin.

bbbhltzbbbhltz@framapiaf.orgOct 15, 2026, 5:47 PM@SRAZKVT Cool, I haven't heard this one yet. I'll see if my students know it.
ajnt25ajnt25@defcon.socialOct 15, 2026, 5:47 PM@SRAZKVT Its perfect. The purpose and succinctness of "carbrained" without the antagonizing feeling of being called <disagreed thing>brained.
Oct 15, 2026, 7:58 PMThe English term I've heard is cager (because they go around everywhere in a little cage)
Þommythomasjwebb@mastodon.socialOct 15, 2026, 7:58 PM@SRAZKVT "I just don't get how they expect people to use this new downtown that doesn't even have a parking structure"
ok, vroomer
Oct 15, 2026, 8:02 PM@SRAZKVT Urban Dictionary has that definition in English from 2020 (https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Vroomer).
Wouldn't the French noun be vroomeur? "Vroomer" sounds like a verb: je vroome, tu vrooomes...

Oct 15, 2026, 8:55 PM@SRAZKVT i'm a vroomer, and i'm proud of it. i like loud and fast cars in the city at night. when i hear them vroom, my heart fills with joy
Oct 15, 2026, 9:34 PM@SRAZKVT lol I like it
Oct 15, 2026, 10:03 PMThere was a campaign against overly noisy vehicles here last year or the year before, called "OK vroomer". It didn't spread where it needed to, but the name was solid.
Oct 16, 2026, 12:01 AM@SRAZKVT I like it! But, if wonder if it is even possible to volunteer a word into english... doesn't english need to steal it?
- sarah tonin :wlfBlep:SRAZKVT@tech.lgbtOct 16, 2026, 3:49 AM
@hoco very easy actually, just start using it and see how others go. english isn't a prescripted language, nor prescreptivist, if enough people use it, it's in

CelloMom On CarsCelloMomOnCars@mastodon.socialOct 16, 2026, 8:03 AMCan't wait for the opportunity to say "OK vroomer" to my vroomer mayor.
Oct 16, 2026, 8:32 AM@SRAZKVT It's a good word, English should absolutely steal it. It's even pre-anglicised and ready to go
Oct 16, 2026, 11:58 AM@SRAZKVT in the Netherlands the VVD (right/Liberal political party) at one point proudly called themselves the Vroom Vroom part to tout their support for cars and opposition to a proposed km-tax.
