I was able to re-create this tiling pattern that I had previously seen from @Danpiker . I'm not sure what to call this, maybe an "irregular pythagorean tiling"?
Also my implementation might not be completely correct because there are some minor imperfections and overlaps, especially near the origin (maybe it's expected?).
