We're thrilled to announce that CoMaps Android release 2025.06.10 is now live on the F-Droid app catalogue!
This is a big step forward in our mission to provide a privacy-respecting, community-powered navigation app to everyone.
Why F-Droid?
- Free and Open Source: F-Droid ensures that the apps listed contain no closed / proprietary parts.
- Community: F-Droid is a volunteer-driven project, aligning perfectly with our values and the support of the amazing people who use CoMaps.

@CoMaps That‘s great news, but you didn‘t answer my last question:
When do you release the iOS version?

@CoMaps (als thank you for adding alt text to the post just now. I generally don't boost stuff that doesn't have alt text on it. So I hope that it can be included for any future posts at the time of posting)

@thibaultmol @CoMaps looks like they have 2 different app ids, app.comaps.fdroid and app.comaps.google. Most things don't do an app id per distribution method. But it's probably alright, you usually can't mix updates between F-Droid and Google Play anyway because of different signing keys.

@thibaultmol @CoMaps yep, sorting out the flow for that is a work in progress, but it's something that's on the radar (and important to me) 🙂

@thibaultmol @CoMaps f-droid failed to make a reproducible build, so it was not signed with a comaps key, and comaps is giving every app signature it's own build.

@thibaultmol @CoMaps I got a duplicate as well, and had to download the maps and log in at OSM again. But not a big problem as it probably only happens once.
It would be nice, however, to have an app icon that shows this is a map application.
What are the main differences compared to Organic Maps so far?

@CoMaps nice to see your progress! how is it, do you have all your own infra for both generating and publishing/distributing the map files for the app?

Great ! I have downloaded and installed, it works fine. One question, to me it looks very much like Organic Maps. Is Comaps based on Organic Maps ? Is it a fork ? If so, why have you decided to fork ? Maybe you have a link explaining this ?

@CoMaps Very impressing! I just downloaded and installed from f-droid. However I'm missing routing settings for bicycle riding, which is my main application. I'm currently used to osmand.
As far as as I could see, there is no way to setup for bicycle-Friendly routing.

@CoMaps Thanks for working on this. Will there also be a "desktop" version for #LinuxPhones? Or a Linux port using #AndroidTranslationLayer?

@CoMaps I can’t wait for the iOS version to be released. Although, I’ll probably be switching to a Nothing Phone in the coming months.
