Oct 20, 2026, 2:31 PMFirst bike commute in dense fog. I did not expect to get so wet. Had to stop and clean my glasses off a few times.

@epu Visibility was pretty bad! I altered my route a bit to help.
Oct 20, 2026, 2:47 PM@rasterweb This is why I wear a scooter helmet with a face shield, and motorcycle gloves with a squeegee on the back of one finger.

@gcvsa My (new) bike gloves do feature thumb pieces that can be used to wipe glasses, though they quickly saturated. I do have a pair of clear goggles in the panniers but didn't think I'd need to pull them out.
C.cazabon@mindly.socialOct 20, 2026, 5:24 PMHuh. Product opportunity: glasses with that transparent electric-heating coating and built-in Li-ion batteries...
Cool photo, though!

j4n3zj4n3z@mastodon.socialOct 20, 2026, 5:55 PM@rasterweb strange how we assume fog=smoke=dry weather until it hits us first time 😅
Although, you still have plenty of light available, I envy you 😄

@j4n3z What time of day is that? Daylight Saving Time ends here in 12 days and it's gonna be dark on the way home at 5pm each day. I started testing one of my new (DIY) bikes lights this week.

@rasterweb this is at 7am in Czechia (also DST). So yeah, in 14 days I'll have a bit of daylight in the morning but not much.
Regarding lights we have some rules in Europe we should obey, for example having sharp edge on the top of the light cone and the edge being aimed slightly downwards to not blind incoming traffic. I'd suggest breathing light as you benefit from others registering it sooner and the light does not go off completely so drivers perception of distance is better.
