I still don't think I understand why it was felt necessary to invent #ActivityPub, when #NNTP already existed and is proven to scale.
Why couldn't we just have an updated HTTP to NNTP gateway front end? #Fediverse

I don't have an actual DisplayPort monitor, and the laptop has a full-size HDMI port, so I don't need the DisplayPort to connect an external HDMI monitor, but I will be moving to DP in the future.
I still have to test the Gigabit Ethernet port. Linux does seem to recognize it, but at the moment, I'm in an online meeting, so I don't want to disturb my network connection right now. Also, I need to find another Ethernet cable for that.
The USB-C PD power passthrough also seems to work.
Actually trying to use my new UGREEN 7-in-1 USB-C hub under Linux Mint 22.3 Cinnamon. So far, it seems that the USB-C (two 3.2 gen 1) and USB-A (one 2.0 and one 3.2 gen 1) ports are working, except that the laptop didn't seem to recognize my Anker C200 webcam when plugged into the hub.
The DisplayPort works with a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter.
I think, if there is one concept that I wish people would understand better, because it is quite literally the key to humanity's and human civilization's survival:
it is that the words "sympathy" (from Greek: sym- + pathos) and "compassion" (from Latin: com- + passio) do not mean to "feel for", they mean to "suffer with", to "suffer together".
#Sympathy and #compassion are not about charity or pity, they are about #solidarity (from Latin: solidus, "the whole"), about #fellowfeeling.
Some people seem to think that there is some sort of right to be free from #criticism online.
You have a right to be free from #harassment, but when you make a public post on the #fediverse or #socialmedia, you are implicitly soliciting public responses.
That you don't like someone's response is not a valid reason to issue a report to the administrators or moderators of that person's instance.
I think I'm on pretty solid #ethical ground, here, but you are of course free to disagree.
Americans need to become conversant with a willingness to condone breaking injust laws that protect bad actors and get comfortable with shielding their neighbors from police and government retaliation. Our governments at all levels are selling us all up the river, and doing it in secret, in the name of "security". Soon, it will be impossible to even think about breaking the law, if we don't act now. #USpol #totalitarianism #panopticon #surveillance #BigBrotherIsWatchingYou #FriendComputer
I personally question the inclusion of PY1, PO13, and PR4 (the ones I didn't immediately recognize), since none of them have been shown to be highly lightfast, and there are better choices for all of them. That affects only three of the colors offered in this set. The rest of the pigments are all solid choices, but again, all of these mixes can be made from common single pigment paints.
Phoenix, who makes a very nifty aluminium pochade box/easel, also has lines of artists' colors, and they have this skin tone #watercolor set. #artsupplies
I can't vouch for the quality, but they do claim to be artist grade, and they do list their pigments. Most of these are convenience mixtures containing either a white or a black, but a few are single pigments. The list will be in the alt text.
All of the 1.5 V regulated lithium-ion cells I have seen up to this point have had USB chargers built-in or are designed to be used with external chargers. It seems very odd to me that EBL and Philips, among others, would be advertising non-rechargeable lithium batteries, but I can't find any actual technical data sheets on them to confirm what chemistry they are using, unlike Energizer, who published their technical data sheets.
I've noticed recently that a lot of AA and AAA nominal 1.5V lithium non-rechargeable cells are showing up on Amazon.
So far as I know, Energizer still holds patents on 1.5 V nominal lithium iron disulfide primary cell technology, but I think I've finally figured it out.
These new companies are actually using 3.7 V lithium-ion 10440 cells, and putting voltage regulators in them. These are not the same thing as the Energizer Ultimate Lithium L91 and L92 batteries, which do not have regulators.
High speed #transport is a pillar of #neoliberalism and #neofeudalism, and the #injustice these failed, immoral ideologies perpetuate, and as such, it should be abandoned and dismantled.
Try to remember that Transrapid was a product of the era before the Internet. People were still transmitting documents by fax machine and courier.
The most efficent use of energy and materials is NOT using energy and materials. The amount of energy needed to shift mass increases exponentially with velocity.
#HighSpeedRail, particularly #maglev #trains, is a solution in search of a problem. The problem with our trains is not that they don't go fast enough, the problem is that we are attempting to substitute rapid intercity #transit for smarter ways of living that don't require #transportation.
It is far less costly and far more efficient, in both financial and #environmental concerns, to simply build better #cities than it is to move people between them. #urbanism
Moriko is the bassist for the band "Haguchi", whose music I really love, and I'm a bassist, too.
I'm surprised to see that Moriko apparently doesn't bring any instruments in her kei van camper, but for me, I would need to be able to fit at least a guitar and bass guitar, pedalboard, and field recorder, and a pair of small powered PA speakers.
Of course, at 185 cm tall, I probably wouldn't fit in a kei van, anyway.
Books I really want by some of my favorite YouTubers:

Today's mini project is making color-coded zipper pulls for the otherwise identical mesh zipper pouches that organize the kits in my #handbag and #travel #luggage:
red for #EDC / emergency, blue for toiletries, green for #FirstAid, and pink for #makeup.
I just need the green. I've been buying 45 Kg (100 lb) test Atwood Micro Cord 1.18 mm (3/64"). I honestly would have preferred their 1.6 mm (1/16") Utility Rope, but the Micro Cord is easier to find.
I'm still considering adding this to the back of the milk crate on my bicycle. #MUTCD R4-11 "Bicycles May Use Full Lane", especially if I can get one that is properly reflective.
Note that this sign has been superceded in the 11th Edition (2023) by R9-20 "Bicycles Allowed Use of Full Lane". Normally, the minimum size of these signs is specified as 30 x 30 inches.

I do NOT tip for counter service. Tips are for bartenders, servers, bathroom attendants, delivery people, and other workers who being things TO ME. If you make me get up and fetch my own shit, you do NOT get tipped.
My cane is about 20 years old, and every time I drop it, it gets a new dent or scratch in the head, but it's still pretty shiny and reflective.
