The whole "the laid off devs can start indie studios" thing is bullshit not just because money, but because the state of affairs for indie devs has never been worse in terms of being able to support yourself financially. Even many "successful" games on steam can rarely support even a single dev.

I saw the other day where Deck & Conn sits on on the chart of all steam games in terms of profit and it's surprisingly high up the list considering it isn't earning enough money to support just me for more than another month.

99% of the money on steam goes to the same handful of projects, few of which are indie.

Like, NextFest is a thing on Steam where devs post demos of their games to get people wishlisting them. Even just a few years ago, it'd be you and a few hundred more people - 2000 at most. Now it's almost impossible to be noticed in NextFest.

Anyone hiring?

I don't even care what it is anymore. I'll work it to the best of my ability regardless of what it is. I just want to live.

Compliance readiness?
Vulnerability management?
Just plain-old IT?
All of it? I've done most of it.

I just also enjoy affording food, a roof over my head, and not feeling like my life is a step away from homelessness at all times. I don't ask for much.

It's okay to block people over bad vibes alone. You don't have to wait until they do something to "deserve it".

Do salespeople actually ever get a sale from cold calling an engineer from LinkedIn trying to sell them on a demo of their B2B software? Like that's gotta be a really really long shot.

Oh no

Hah, I just discovered that our local Shakespeare theater has a discount for people UNDER 35.

Mini candy bars too expensive. Going a different way for trick or treaters this year.

I now have permission to share something I hoped would be revealed with much more fanfare.

I spent more than 3 years as one of the writers of #MassEffect4

It was one of the greatest privileges & GLORIOUS challenges of my life. I smiled every day. I worked HARD for the fans, every day.

So when I say I am devastated by the end of #MassEffect I REALLY mean it. I don’t know how to express how gutted I truly am.

The first genuinely honest ad for generative AI I've ever seen, from Microsoft / CoPilot

A mediocre white guy sees his non-white colleague getting praised for good work, he asks AI to *literally copy it*, and then he gets all the praise instead:

How many millions of words have been spilled over manufactured outrage about a small minority of trans people that just want to be left alone ...

@akareilly When FOSS is even less diverse than most tech corps...

know whats funny, that i just realized about 'risk acceptance forms'?

even if some business unit signs one and says they accept the risk for whatever it is...

guess whos problem it is if it gets popped?
guess who has to do IR?

not them

Here's a good car for any of you who looked at the Cybertruck and thought "they didn't push that idea nearly far enough"

I especially hate Vivek Ramaswamy for making me feel sympathy for a TERF.

As with every major vuln, expect another 2-4 emergency patches over the next few weeks as every hacker starts pounding on PHP for some great "Me Too" cred.

For my fellow dog owners:

A cheap way to get more playtime out of their toys is to get a cheap felt blanket and cut it down to maybe like 3' x 4' (or whatever size makes sense for their toys). Show them the toy, squeak it a couple times, then wrap the toy in the blanket, and let them go digging for it. When they find it, take it back, rewrap it, and let them find it again. We've gotten a lot more lifespan out of toys by adding that game to them, rather than just fetch or letting them rip it to shreds.

@kookie based on current trends, our sophisticated models predict that the next funny number is -120

I am reminded again how in 1935, the US Congress passed a tax law that created a new top tax bracket of nearly 80%.

That tax bracket contained exactly one person, John D. Rockefeller, and was designed to stop him from causing so much trouble.

In case anyone needs the precedent.
