It's why modern ultra-orthodox Torah Jewish sects do not shave. Then certain Christian orthodox religious men did not shave to emulate Christ. Shaving is considered haram/forbidden by certain Muslim sects, as well, by the word of Muhammad.
Bears? I have no clue. By the pictures I'd guess they make cuddly non-judgmental super-confidential drinking buddies. 🐻

Several saints were said to be buddies with lions in the Egyptian/Palestinian desert, while St. Seraphim of Sarov & St. Herman of Alaska were friendly with bears.

I was once sitting on one of those facing bench seats on public transit, with two other men, strangers all. I realised in passing that the three of us had beards.A fourth man, clean shaven, boarded and came to sit with us, and I held up a hand and told him: "I'm sorry sir, this is the bearded section."
He hesitated!
And then we all burst laughing, he as well.
One of the others let him off the hook:
"well I guess it's ok this one time!"
