First hurdle: getting my laptop to recognize the bootable USB stick. Pressing F12 only presented me with the option of the existing disk.

Naturally, I took the stick out of the laptop and wanted to plug it back into my main PC, to see what's going on. But it was already there!

How to mitigate: after evaluating which of two identical USB sticks you want to use, make sure to not leave the other one on your desk and get distracted 🤦

Today was busy, but now I've sat down and started by downloading the image and created a bootable USB stick.

My plans have changed, I won't risk my main PC with a dual boot, since I know next to nothing about BSD, but I have a laptop that I can wipe completely, so I'll go with that. Might motivate me to use my laptop more often and tinker away from my main desk.

I'm new to microblogging, but since I'm here, I might as well. I learn from y'all and maybe I find something new too.
