Oct 24, 2026, 9:00 AMI ordered a couple of cardigans from the Seasalt outlet store on Ebay, and they are perfect - woolly and snuggly and comforting, and much cheaper than the full retail price.

My knitter's eye has noticed that the yarn used for these cardigans looks like it's a single / un-plied yarn, like some of the stuff you get from Malabrigo, and knitted at quite a tight gauge. I wonder how well it will wear in the long term.

As well as my new cardigan, I'm wearing a new dress - just a plain long black dress made from a lightweight jersey. I feel like it would go really well with a flannel petticoat when it's colder temps than today. Might have to see if I can find something suitable.

Charlotte Walkerpurplepadma@beige.partyOct 24, 2026, 9:11 AM@sheepnik I’ve just put my big cardi on and I’m instantly much happier.

@Shelly And even better when it's £30-40 cheaper than the full price stuff!

@sheepnik oooh, very good!
Knittingdancer🏴🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈Knittingdancer@toot.walesOct 24, 2026, 10:21 AM@sheepnik that's why I never buy these lovely pieces. They look gorgeous but pil like anything.

@Knittingdancer I just looed at the listing, and it says it's 70/30 merino and nylon, so hopefully it'll be ok. I'll mostly be wearing them at home, so it doesn't matter if they do get a bit bobbly.
Sonja SchulteSonjaS@mastodon.artOct 24, 2026, 3:11 PM@sheepnik Ok now I am confused. I learned a petticoat was one of those big tule skirts you put under your skirt in the fifties to make it widen. Or little girls wear them. Surely not that is meant here 🤔 (flannel??)

@SonjaS It's a variation on that - a warm underskirt to be worn under a dress. Flannel is a brushed woven fabric, so tends to quite warm. Something like this https://maggiemayfashions.com/shop/historical-dress/romantic/winter-flannel-petticoat/

@sheepnik I had no idea people still do that nowadays!

@sheepnik I love a petticoat. Hadn’t thought of flannel before though!

@helenclayton I was looking on Etsy for some, and found someone up in Mach who sells them. I might get one, just to see what it's like.
Sue Archersuearcher@toot.walesOct 24, 2026, 8:39 PMIf you get a red flannel petticoat, you're one step away from tying it to a stick to warn trains about landslides...

@suearcher Really I want one that looks like the one I saw in the Quilt Centre in Lampeter years ago.

@sheepnik Ooh, I bet that's cosy!
